Why no electronic stability control, etc?

Perhaps more old news for you.. but I doubt adding stability control will be the death of the Viper, but upcoming changes to FMVSS regulations such as Roof Crush are more significant beginning in 2012 which will require redesign, engineering, testing and new tooling. Current regulation requires...

Why no electronic stability control, etc?

PS.. Cop Magnet.. if you didn't know.. Stability control was proposed to FMVSS via NHTSA, see doc for stats, and the proposal was accepted, to be implemented in 2012, i.e. see following Road & Track article...

Why no electronic stability control, etc?

Thinking you may enjoy this one regarding less personal responsibility in America. Cars are designed different for the US market. In Europe it is not required (ECE regulation) to protect the occupant if they are unbelted, meaning in a frontal collision the occupant would slam into the dash...

Why no electronic stability control, etc?

The Viper can be considered safer than many other cars on the road in different aspects as it is, from braking distances to impact zones. I'd predict what sells a supercar.. Exterior Beauty #1, Performance #2, Handling #3, Interior #4, Fit & Finish #5, Electronic Technology #6, Carry golf clubs...

Why no electronic stability control, etc?

Sorry.. Featherstone.. refers to the road that the Viper engineering and design group facility resided on back then, also known as FREC (Featherstone Road Engineering Complex), then it changed to PVO, then SRT, then as Janni mentions, the group was moved across I-75 to the CTC (Chrysler...

Why no electronic stability control, etc?

Valid point if the car was only intended for the masses, but a point you may have missed regarding body style change (more aerodynamic, straightening the lines) was that Chrysler intended to compete more in the GT series, mid engine was even contemplated and mocked up. I distinctly remember...

What features/options should next Gen Viper have?

Just ABS for me.. that's because I already smoked a set of front tires during a panic stop in the city on a concrete road.. All the other handling assist stuff is like processed food.. sometimes we're just too lazy or there's not enough time to cook from scratch.. and there are those that...

Why no electronic stability control, etc?

That's cool, still a good topic of discussion.. Electronic aids.. even a hot debate in the F1 industry such as Traction Control.. quoting "they have to show what they can do without traction control".. see video.. F1 without Traction Control - Car Videos on StreetFire

Why no electronic stability control, etc?

Excellent example Leslie. As I mentioned before.. manufacturers design a vehicle for the masses.. They need to adjust the stability control dynamics for the most common driver (for safety). Leslie surely doesn't fall into this category, guessing... probably within the top 5% Corvette...

Why no electronic stability control, etc?

You're talking about 2 different things.. there's Traction Control and Active Handling on a Corvette. Traction Control prevents tire slip on take -off. Active Handling / Electronic Stability Control controls braking at all corners along with detecting the steering wheel position, yaw and...

Big ticket items are usually heads that get warped when overheated, sounds like it's ok.. it's an advantage that the block and heads are aluminum during times like these..

Why no electronic stability control, etc?

It's an interesting subject.. different aspects.. Cost as always is a big hitter.. Analysis, vehicle dynamics, etc.. months in engineering and testing can be burned up to develop a system for the car. Unless you already share a platform with another car which cuts costs (i.e. Corvette and...

    What could this be?

Hi Chuck - The "certain amount of force" that I mentioned in mosts tests is directly proportional to the weight of the car. There is more kinetic energy to absorb in a box that weighs 1600 lbs compared to 3400 lbs travelling at speed. Just like the newest roof crush test, the amount needed to...
