Mine was the first run on my first time drag racing the Viper. I ran against a Mercedes S600 sedan (V12TT).
I spun badly in first, hit the rev limiter in 2nd, and missed 3rd, netting a 13.0 @110MPH.
WAY behind the Benz.
And of course he had videotaped it. And posted it on his...
From the amazingly slow speeds shown, it looks like it was a DMV parking test that we were watching, rather than an autocross event! :p
Was the loud repeated hissing noise the bodywork constantly scraping on the ground during parking maneuvers? :o
It was painful to listen to.
Yeah, well Motor Trend picked the BMW M3 over the Z06 in a performance comparison test because the M3 comes with back seats!
I think that their skewed judgement comes from the fact that they spend most of their time these days testing econocars, trucks and minivans. :( So they get...
The Viper can easily have the same amount of passion as it does today and still include airbags, ABS, and traction control.
You certainly don't want to lose any fun of the Viper to making it safer, but if there is no downside in driving enjoyment, and it helps save dozens (if not hundreds) of...
Re: Small Video of me playing with snakes...and it looks like I am a flamer
I'd bet that he also has drag radials/Nittos, which make a huge difference launching from a stop.
But there's no doubt that the Cobra is a serious car too!
Thanks for the video! The light blur...
This video is several years old (as witnessed by them running against a Ferrari 355), and I have no doubt that the accident was real. :(
You can see the they had cameras inside both cars, and the first shot where they set up an external camera on the road the Viper driver was showing off and...
I've had my R/T10 as a daily driver for about 4 years now, but it's a 2000, which has the hardtop and power windows.
The newer top is fine for occasional light showers, and it leaks a bit in hard driving rain.
But I've driven in Scotland, and it's not the car that I'd want to own there...
Xanadu,
The Viper does use magnesium, aluminum, and other lighweight materials throughout. They haven't adopted an aluminum frame and CF body panels because DC is holding back the purse strings, as witnessed by how long it took to build the coupe, and how little it's changed over the...
Traction control is a safety feature like seatbelts, airbags, ABS, a rollbar, etc.
I think that as the Viper's HP climbs, it needs safeguards for extreme driving conditions that will be more easily attained.
Expert drivers who regularly race will have 5-point seatbelts, and know how to brake on...
I for one think that the blower-in-the-trunk option would be awesome for the short-term, along with a R-Compound tire option.
With reliable boost levels you can see between 650 and 700HP (crank), and then the Viper will start to be compared again to the Ford GT, Porsche CGT, and Enzo. Rather...
Yep, that's exactly what I was thinking. The Paxton blower is already smog approved, and costs under $7K.
So DC could just bolt one onto the Viper for 650HP+ and easily keep the price well under $100K!
THAT simple move would instantly put the Viper back up on the top of the...
Last year a worker was pulling a new Corvette off of a carrier at the dealership and accidentally hit the gas too hard and lost control wrecking 6 cars. :p
His comment was that the (350HP) Corvette just had "too much power"!
I've had the rear step out twice when I downshifted from...
I think that the Viper needs about 650HP, and I'm happy to live with traction control for newbie drivers and poor weather.
As far as control goes, the first year that Porsche built the 911 Turbo halfof them were totaled in the irst year!
It took years for the Viper to get ABS, but I...
I installed a set of Northwind caps and I really like the results. The Viper is already low so I didn't want to have lowered springs that dropped the car 2".
The shorter caps drop the car almost an inch, but use all of the stock factory suspension components. I still had the suspension...
The 290HP V6 powered NSX was quickly approaching $100,000, and we are supposed to believe that Honda is going to be now building a new NSX with a 585HP V12, and have the price under $60K!?!
Please...
The concept car picture shown was supposed to be the next NSX, but the...
After the LA auto show and magazine press releases stating 500HP, I'd guess that they could silently add more power, but I'd be surprised if DC changed the power rating now.
Seeing that the SRT-10 Viper is already underrated at 525-530HP so adding 25HP would be simple.
It would be only smart...
I've had people open their doors into the Viper, but so far no paint chips or bad damage. I have sometimes had people parking extra far away from the Viper (worrying about being too close). And it's a regular occurance to park far away and have cars on both sides of the Viper (parked way off in...
I've got 3.55s and still making it through the traps in 4th (at 127MPH), but with much more power I'd consider going back to the stock 3.07 gears.
I don't care about top speed as there is no place to drive that fast here. Let alone safely.
I actually don't fear for the Viper with the FirePower's production because it'a aimed more at the BMW, Jaguar, Mercedes coupe market with luxury being a key element.
In fact now that the Ram uses the Viper's V10, and the prospect of leveraging the SRT-10 Viper's frame for the Firepower, there...
Re: The Z06 isn\'t the only new competition!
Funny, but I don't see the upcoming Lexus as a competitor against the Viper. First-off it's a Lexus, so it's likely shooting for the M6, CL55 market.
And in that pursuit the price will likely be well over $100K, unfortunately for Luxus the Z06...
