Yep, yellow is a definite eye-catcher all right.
There is a real reason why many fire engines are now painted yellow rather than the traditional red. And why many roadside traffic signs are yellow as well.
Because yellow is a highly visible, bold color, that people look at.
I'm not...
I added the VEC1 and although it didn't add gobs of power on the dyno, it made the car feel better overall, in the same way that it feels better running in cold air.
The RRs made more power, but were more pricey.
And I didn't get headers, but I'd suspect that they would easily provide 2X the...
The 1200RWHP Novi setup apparently made it's big power up top, and it lacked the drivability of the previous DLM setup, which was already traction impared with 800-1000RWHP. :o
The added power only made the car dangerous to drive, spinning the tires at any speed!
So he had the car...
It's not that I "didn't get" your analogy, it's just that it's a poor analogy, which only (somehow) seems valid to you.
If you can't understand the concept of performance as being the keystone to a performance car's value, you certainly won't understand why the Viper is a great buy.
That...
Re: Stock \'02 RT/10 on street tires runs 11.71 @ 118
Well that makes me feel lousy. You ran that time with a stock car and the top off?
Sheesh! ;)
You can tell that Autostream is on the ropes when the defense turns to performance comments that include Caterhams (4-wheeled, motorcycles that are a hollow shell of a car), and the Ring (which rarely tests American cars, and even more rarely does tests constantly, with no accounting of driver...
My first thought was also ME412, which Daimler/Chrysler is building. ;)
Seeing that the Viper is already a front-mid-engined car, I don't see any advantage other than image in building a rear-mid-engined model. The Viper just needs some more power to keep it ahead of it's competitors...
I agree that the debate was going in a bit of a loop, talking about spare tires/MPG, and Autostream is clearly not conceeding or learning anything from the actual Vipers owners who know the truth better than he ever could.(being biased towards European cars) :p
But I figured that this...
Yeah, that was (almost) my comment about evolving towards being a better daily driver. But my point was that if you took the 1992 Viper and compared it directly against the 2005 SRT-10 Viper you would see that it has in fact evolved into a better daily driver than the original concept (which was...
You have made that comment more than once here, and it still has no real merit. :o
The 911 Turbo was more expensive than the Viper then, and is still far more expensive today, even though the Viper has evolved into a full convertible that can now run against the quickest $$$ Lamborghini...
I think that it's a great move to add the Viper's V10 to the RAM truck.
In fact, spreading the V10's development cost and making a bigger market for the V-10 engine could actually help keep the Viper in production longer. :2tu:
If the Viper's V-10 is just used in one vehicle, you have to...
I'm not a big fan of the 430's front fascia air intakes, but mechanically it's vital that they upped the power to stay up with the high performance competition, which is now set at 500HP.
The NSX is a good example of what happens if a performance 2-seater manufacturer doesn't update their car's...
I owned a C4 Corvette convertible, and it was a great car. Plus the C6 convertible is indeed very tempting. I think that it looks very nice, and is an improvement across the board from the already good C5 Corvette.
But even though the C6 Corvettes are rare and hot right now, in 6 months you are...
It always surprises me when people site the Viper as a gas hog.
The far LESS powerful Ferrari 360 is rated at only 10MPG in the City/16 highway! With an easy average of 13MPG for mixed driving. For a car with similar acceleration to the Viper, the Lamborghini Murcielago is rated...
Re: Z06 spied and already talks of
I figure that the C6 Z06 will be around 3100lbs, and will indeed have 500HP.
The final version of the Z06 will be shown soon enough at the upcoming NAIAS show in Detroit, with info available on Jan 9th, 2005.
Because of the Z06's weight advantage and...
Nothing amazing about it. We own and live with these Vipers in the real world, and you and Clarkson don't. But you still somehow believe that you are judging them objectively, even with your undeniable blind preference for European cars.
I never said that Vipers are the best cars for European...
It's clear that you keep dancing around the fact that you are plainly biased, and so is Clarkson.
You share his Euro-centric, distorted point of view.
Just don't expect for any of us (who actually drive Vipers regularly) to believe skewed, opinionated views that simply do not...
The Viper is actually my daily driver, but I alternate with my '59 Karmann Ghia, which I've had for 28 years, and still works best for errand runs. :2tu:
I have bought and sold cars on E-Bay including my Viper.
The key is doing some research, both on the car and on the seller.
I drove a couple hundred miles and picked mine up after inspecting it, and the seller was very straightforward and accurate describing the car.
But before I bought a...
Come on Autostream.
You can't have it both ways.
First you accuse the Viper of being too crude, and now it's too civilized and feature laden. Sheesh!
And the 911 Turbo is $118K, with the 911 Turbo Cabrio at $128K (415HP/3520lb), and we are somehow supposed to see the more...
Interesting that there is not much of a HP gain until after 4000RPM. You would definitely want to rev the car to redline to extract the greatest power gains.
