J-Rho autocrosses an SRT-10 in SCCA SS class

So we finished the first big event of the year, the San Diego National Tour. Life's been busy so I thrashed to get the stock diff in the car on Thursday night. That was a bit trickier without a proper ball joint separator, but I got it done eventually. The car had performed brilliantly with...

    Installing a Quaife

I just completed a diff swap on my car. Took me more than a couple hours, but I did it on my back in a small single-car garage. I also don't have the tools to properly undo the ball joints (you should use a correctly sized puller, not a pickle fork), so I had to unbolt the control arms, which...

J-Rho autocrosses an SRT-10 in SCCA SS class

I use the only competitive R-compound tire out right now that fits stock-sized Viper wheels, the Hoosier A6.

J-Rho autocrosses an SRT-10 in SCCA SS class

Hi Alan, I see you've got Harold Olsen co-driving with you. Harold is a great guy and a fantastic driver, it'll be very interesting to see how he does in your car. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on the point of view) Scotty swapped out those nice delrin-bushed arms for some stock...

2008 ACR runs 1:29.33 at Willow Springs

Keep in mind too, Millen is a big Nissan lapdog. By driving 3-4 seconds under the car's potential, he'll be able to beat that time when they ask him to run the GTR later in an upcoming issue, thus completing the prophecy of it being the fastest production car EVAR!!!! Would be nice to get...

2008 ACR runs 1:29.33 at Willow Springs

1:29 isn't all that great, so I guess we have to look at the relative times as a better comparison. 3 seconds seems about right but I figured it'd be more like 1:26 for the ACR and 1:29 for the 2008. Galati ran a 1:30 at Willow in a bone stock C5 Z06 a few years back. Conditions at Willow...

    Quaife??? why

My car has a Quaife in it, and with the stock wheels and tires, if you give it enough gas in a low gear to get wheelspin, the wheel will start to hop. I think it has more to do with the weight of the wheel/tire vs. the abilities of the rear shocks to dampen those oscillations. Switching to...

J-Rho autocrosses an SRT-10 in SCCA SS class

Hi All, Using this thread as a placeholder for the 2008 season, campaigning my 2004 SRT in the SCCA's "Super Stock" autocross class. Most people don't think of the the Viper as a good autocross car because of its size and power, but I think there's some things about it that make it a good...

Tried different diff fluids to change its behavior?

I know, I know, get a Quaife...unfortunately where I race we have to run the stock diff. Will actually be taking the Quaife out to put the stocker back in. Wondering if anybody has experimented with different types of fluids or levels of LSD additive to change the behavior of the stock...

    Lightest rims in 18 x 10 and 19 x 13?

Ran my first event with the car sorta put together yesterday. The custom swaybar worked great, the car was a blast to drive with everything working. This is going to be a very interesting season. :) Here's a few with the new wheels on the car. You'll have to forgive the half-absent center...

Ride Difference Stock 08 Versus ACR?

The most important factor in bar stiffness is the Outside Diameter of the center section. In the equation for stiffness it gets raised to the 4th power whereas other stuff like arm length only gets squared, or less. The net result of this is a hollow bar with a larger OD could be stiffer...

    Viper for stock class autocross

Rich, unfortunately you aren't allowed to swap in parts of a non-Stock-legal car onto your own car in Stock class, making the ACR Stoptech brakes illegal. With the exception of allowed parts(front bar, wheels, tires, cat-back), the car must be in a configuration that was available from the factory.

    Viper for stock class autocross

The 2008, assuming the SEB lets it play in SS, is looking pretty good with 5% stiffer springs over the '03-'06. Hopefully the new diff is a lot better in autox situations too. Hard to say how usable the extra power would be. ACRs old and new both go straight to ASP. The older one might be...

Edmunds First Drive: 2008 Viper ACR

It would be helpful to know what the laptime differences were, so we can at least gauge how hard they were pushing it. If they went from a :36 in the '08 to a :34 in the ACR, all we can determine from that is that somebody needs to be smacked... ;) A 1:30 at Willow is an even 100mph average...

Edmunds First Drive: 2008 Viper ACR

The Michelin PSC's aren't *that* much better than non-runflat PS2s, especially if you don't get enough hot laps back-to-back to get proper temps into the PSCs. Maybe less than a second difference in that situation.

Edmunds First Drive: 2008 Viper ACR

With all its high speed corners, the % difference between the ACR and standard '08 should be bigger at Willow that any other track. I'm guessing a bone stock '08 would do a mid to high :29, and the ACR a mid to low :27, and into the low :25s or :24s with some stickier tires, wider front...

    acr pics at detroit

Looks great, though I liked the gray and black concept from a while back a bit better. Anybody know the name or paint code used on the doors and fenders of this one? I've got a few scratches anyway, thinking of doing this on my car...

    Lightest rims in 18 x 10 and 19 x 13?

Hi Rich, Those wheel width values are really just guidelines provided by the manufacturer and are not indicative of what you can actually do. Stock-class autocrossers, because of their unique rules which allow any-sized tire on stock-width wheels tend to push things to the "fat tire on skinny...

    Lightest rims in 18 x 10 and 19 x 13?

Rich, that isn't really a function of the rim design, just a function of how wide the OEM wants to go on a given width wheel. A 10" wide wheel can physically accomodate a tire quite a bit wider than 295. While at the outer limits of fitment wheel design can come in to play in for ease of...

    Lightest rims in 18 x 10 and 19 x 13?

Unboxed my CCW SP16a's today. Little disappointed in the weights, about 23 pounds up front, 26 rear. That was with the center caps in, might be a bit lighter without 'em. On the plus side, the offsets were built how I wanted (1/4" less than stock), so I won't have to deal with spacers. My...

    ok, dont shoot me!

You're not the only one! :) I happen to really like wings on cars, and drew a ton of flak for being one of the first to put them on a Honda S2000. I think the new ACR is the best looking Viper yet, one day I'd like to get my '04 black mamba painted like the gray (fenders, doors) and black...

    Am I the only one?

Well, I'd rather have something that is optimized for when all 4 wheels are covered in rubber, than for those rare times when they aren't. :) Ironically, the ABS on my Viper is broken at the moment for a reason I don't yet know, I bought it that way. The brakes in that mode still work...

    Am I the only one?

I can appreciate the KISS principle. For everyone there is a line somewhere between live axles & carbs (Nascar) and something like the GTR (pinnacle of modern techno nannyhood). To each his own. The question is whether the Viper's esssence has been in shunning new tech just for the sake of...
