Would you cut your losses or fix the car?

I’m sorry Sybil… Can’t help it.. But you must remember, this is a feud between the two of you (an unfortunate thing and I wish for the 2 of you it would be resolved) and not mine.. Think of me as Switzerland!

Would you cut your losses or fix the car?

Hahaha... I like how you put it, its an accurate statement... The way I figure it, I would rather try $100 dollar fix before a $12,000 dollar fix..

Would you cut your losses or fix the car?

Dave, I look at it as no longer a press fit but a fit much like my 69 Vette which is a slide on Keyed balancer (2 keyed in this case). Worth a try in my opinion. Worst case, if it fails, throw a used Motor in it or crank it. But, that's me, I don't have 12 g's to throw around, I have a kid...

Would you cut your losses or fix the car?

So I am assuming this is yours done??? If so, what did you remove to do it (assuming the engines still in the car) and did you use a 90 deg drill? PS, You should have your head examined if you don't try this fix before spending 12 - 15k

Would you cut your losses or fix the car?

If I were you, I would put a paint mark on the bolt and a corresponding mark on the balancer that way you can see if the bolt / balancer rotates and the marks become misaligned. Check it every once in a while... Stitch in time saves nine.. Just added security...

Would you cut your losses or fix the car?

I have not seen a write up but if you go to Roe’s site and look at the tool they sell, there are some Pics… When winter is over up here, I’m going to pull my car off the lift and check it with a torque wrench then repaint my marks on the bolt / balancer. I thought I read somewhere a while ago...

Would you cut your losses or fix the car?

Dave6666, it looks like the bolt is more accessible from the top? When I had my car on my lift last fall, I was prepared to take the bolt out and red locktite it and re torque to 250 ft lbs’s but was trying to do it from the underside. It was tight getting the breaker bar in there due to front...

I believe you have a 96 GTS and that's what I own. Who is going to do it for you? I am not far from Tator and I may have him do mine... Also, Revheats 96 GTS bible does mention this in the Doc...

Would you cut your losses or fix the car?

Dave who? Not Dave me, I suggested Helicoil type fix (because he has stripped threads) with new balancer and pinning. She must mean dave6666.. Dude, you are causing some serious confusion on this thread!

Would you cut your losses or fix the car?

Can you elaborate on why you can’t install the Timesert in the car given enough room to gain access in the front? I also would make a jig that attaches to the balancer with a hole in the center so the drill bit goes in square. I could be missing something though..

Would you cut your losses or fix the car?

I agree with Dean, I would try the Timesert with a new balancer and then pin it. What do you have to lose??? If you have problems again, then you can go the crank route and by that time, maybe your financial situation will be more favorable. You have nothing to lose!

I just installed a LUK in my 3000gt and like it. Got it off Amazon for $107. It was a kit and came with throw out bearing, disk, pressure plate and alignment tool.
