Wow. I thought I knew a lot about lubes. Tom outclasses me by about 4000%. LOL

Question: For those of us that have 4 seasons and a daily driver, what's the vote on using different weights during a particular season?
Example: 0W-40 in the winter; 10W-30 in the summer.

Benefits?
Drawbacks?
Gen. I only? Gen. II only? Gen. III only? All?

I really appreciate all the oil information.

0W-40 better solves both seasonal conditions than 10W-30, is is the superior multigrade.

However, if you live in a place with SCORCHING summers, especially on Track Days, 15W-50 is good for a little extra protection.

Yup, the 0W-40 is better than the 10W-30 for all year use. Plus, by a quirk of formulating, the 0W-40 will have more additive to meet the tougher Euro car specs, since the 0W-40 is a favorite Euro grade.

Add to the list of things for a tracked car - oil temp gauge. If you really get beyond 260F, then consider a higher viscosity. I replaced the OEM voltmeter with a second OEM temp gauge and simply bought a sending unit for the oil pan. Looks stock, probably not highly accurate, but tells you if something is significantly different.
