I just pulled my car out of a service today because the clerk quoted me $1150 for replacing a leaking A/C Compressor. Does this sound right? I'll run the part numbers through The Wiz, but first I'd like to hear some second opinions.

Also this "5-Star Viper Tech" (their words not mine) insisted up and down that the leaking compressor was the reason the car wanted to stay revving at 3,500 rpm. I insisted that the compressor running should only bump the revs to maybe a grand, but 3,500 would burn the engine up on a hot day.
Am I wrong in this thought process?

Any quick help would be greatly appreciated...

I think that Tech is seeing stars because he has hit his head too many times!

That's more in the range I was thinking. I'm looking over the quote here again and there is a second part# 5264924AA - Discharge Hose. Its not calcualted in with the orginal estimate so I'm not sure if its part of the $1150 total.

Since Jason doesn't have the setup to do A/C work does anyone in the MD/DE area know of an honest shop that will put on the compressor/line I bring in? I may have found one really cheap, now all I need is help putting it on.

Also my jeep mechanic swears that the 3,500rpm idle speed is the direct result of a vaccuum leak and has nothing to do with the A/C - and thoughts on that one?
