I was wandering with the forge internals & heavy cam what are people running stock on their GTS. Was the 96-99 faster in the quarter mile than 00-02. I have heard from the grapevine the 96-97 with that cam stock lowering pressure in the rear tires ran
12.3s & 00-02 ran 12.5s with a good driver. The .2s difference was because of cam & forged internals. Not talking ACRs because have seen where 99 ran a 12.1 stock. This same person also told me in 96 & 97s were the fastest of any of the GTSs.

Times for all the cars thru 2002 are going to be close, will really depend on the driver. The fasted tested car was a 2000 RT/10 that went 11.7 at 119 I think. The biggest difference would be if you plan to add FI or NOS to your car. It would be better to go with a 1996-1999 due to the forged internals(assuming you don't want to have to open up the engine).

With your mods(belanger headers, random tech x-pipe with no cats ), I would say high 11's on a good pass as about 120.

How is a RT faster than a GTS...I have seen stock RTs consistently run high 12s with gen II motor not gen I where GTS run mid 12s stock...The same driver ran a high 12 in a 01 RT consitently switched to a 99 ACR ran low 12s all stock....Same night...Just wander always thought GTS are faster...:dunno:

Like I said, depends on the driver, mods etc. The 11.77 was achieved thru one of the magazines. If you do a search in the archives, there was a few threads on it. Asked the same question you did, but got to remember that at the end of the 1/4, areodynamics don't play as big of a role as they would past 150.

46k miles on the car, Stock 17" rims, michelin sports I believe. Oh...and a very abused clutch, it is amazing the abuse these things can take! On the same day I watched a granny-shifted 11.2second 96 GTS, head work, headers, full exhaust & 3.55's on slicks. He did 11.4 on street tires!

96 GTS with exhaust, head work and Ross pistons. It was the first time at the tack wth this car so I was doing a check it out run. I ran an 11.206 at 123.409 mph and got told to slow down or go home. So I lowed down and ran a 11.564 at 123.167. So I quit before I got kicked out.

Back when my 01 ACR was stock I ran a 12.2@118 with a 1.9 60ft, 35psi in the rear tires. I think the record for a GenII is 11.8@120mph bone stock. I have the vid some place. It was a Bumble Bee GTS.

When it comes to drag racing, the ACR should be a bit slower off the line (due to 1100ft-lb springs in the rear) but a little better on the top end (due to tubes and filters). It really evens out.

Currently I've run a 11.1@131mph with a 1.9 60ft time. I afraid I'm going to bust a half-shaft at the rate I'm going. Heads, exhaust and a crower stg 1 street cam (same as a 708).

You can hit mid 10's in a heads cam STREET viper if it's set up right. Just a set of BFG's (or Kumho's) a Good cam and Good Heads ;) A mph of 135 can be reached.

I ran 11.46 in my '99 ACR at the first Viper Nationals in San Antonio. The only mods were deleted cats and BFG drag radials.

RT's are lighter then GTS with the same power = faster in a straight line. Keep in mind that the viper was designed as a convertible so the GTS isn't much if any stiffer then the RT. The advantage of the GTS is mostly aerodynamics which don't come into play much in the 1/4 mile.

I have actually heard from reliable sources that the creampuff cam cars was actually quicker than the lumpy cam cars. This is a very heated topic on these forums and is almost as bad as the Gen II vs Gen III debate. :nono: My opinion is there really isn't much difference between any of them and it mostly depends on the driver. And I obviously prefer the Gen II. ;) :lmao:

I've heard the creampuff was quicker stock, but the forged was better to mod.
