I remember reading along time ago that the 1996 GTS at its time was the fastest US production car and the most expensive. Does any else remember reading this somewhere? I have tried to look through all my magazines and books and cannot find that statement. Does anybody know?

Thanks,

Rev

Probably true. Sticker on a GTS in 1996 was about $66k. I can't think of any other American production car going for more than that back then. Caddy's, Lincoln's, etc. weren't that much then. Viper was certainly faster than the Vette in 96 (and 97, 98, 99, 00...)

Sounds good to me. :2tu:

You are correct. The sticker base was $66,000 and with the gas guzzler tax and destination charge the total was $69,300.

Even the Caddy STS in '96 was 51k and a new LT1 Vette was 42k.

Oh and yes, it was the fastest.. and some still are! Right 1Tony!???
