Just bought a 1996 red RT10 with the Ketchup and Mustard. This one has a yellow strip down the middle. Is this factory or was it after market? From my reading i thought the strip only came on the 1996 GTS. Any thoughts? Sorry I don't have any good photos of it yet...

You are correct...on the red/yellow 96 R/T 10's there were no stripes...period.
Are your stripes vinyl or paint?

As an aside, the other two 1996 R/T 10 color schemes had unique stripes that were vinyl covered with clearcoat.
Black cars had tapered silver stripes and the white cars had tapered blue stripes.

Those stripes remind me of a red/yellow R/T 10 that raced in Viper days in the late 1990's. It MAY have said "Centipede" on the side. Others may recall more facts...or correct my "recollections".

I have not seen the car yet but my dad thinks the stripes are painted and clear coated over. I am picking it up Thursday night and doing the Woodward Dream Cruise with it before I bring it back to northern MI. I sure I will stop by the Viper section on Saturday! Thanks for all the info!

The wheels are correct, but the stripes are not. Its really
a matter of taste though - they dont devalue the car in
any way. If you like them, keep them - no harm, no foul.

You are absolutely correct Steve. I cannot remember his name. He appeared at the first west coast Viper Days event we ever had at the Streets of Willow Springs. His driving coach / chief mechanic was none other than the infamous Eric Messley. "Centipede" was on the side of the car...I believe it was the name of a tool company that sponsored his car. He drove his car hard but it was very well taken care of.

Hi, Frank..sent a couple of photos of your car and transporter to Brian in VA yesterday. I had forgotten that I have literally hundreds of photos from late 90's into 2005 Viper Days and some from 99 World Challenge events. Fun to see you pioneers !!

Also, before I forget again - try not to move the car with the
hood unlatched like that. I understand it was probably just off the
rollback, but if you turned the tires just enough you can rip a
chunk out of that $3000+ clamshell... or worse. Its never worth
the risk.

Hi Y'all,

I have a 96 RT10, your car has been repainted. The 96 RT10s came in two flavors in the 1st half of the year; White with Blue stripes or Red with Yellow Stripes. The RT10's were not produced the 2nd half of the year as they moved plants that year and started making the other models in the new plants. there where only 720 RT10's produced in 1996. Here's the thing.... The 96 RT10s are the only year where the stripes >>Do Not<< touch the bumbers.. they are only only on the hood, the trunk and the panels between the trunk and the rear window (see pics of my car). In addition; the strip on the hood should look like a snake fangs. The rims on the 96 RT10's should be powder coated depending on the car. I have a White with Blue stripes, my rims were powder coated White, the Red with Yellow stripes have Yellow rims. I had my rims re-powder coated and the hubcaps painted to match the strip but you get the idea.

Biggeek2003 forgot to mention the 1996 R/T 10's that were black with silver stripes.

... two corrections:

The 96 RT10s came in two flavors in the 1st half of the year; White
with Blue stripes or Red with Yellow Stripes.

The RT was produced throughout the 1996 Model year and suspended
in the 97 model year to retool - which is why there are so few 97 RTs.
Production of the RT slowed in the spring of 96 only because the GTS
was just introduced and there was a huge initial demand. You had three
colour options: White with Blue Swordblade Stripes and white wheels /
Black with Silver Swordblade Stripes and silver wheels / Red with no
stripes and yellow wheels.

they moved plants that year and started making the other models
in the new plants.

Viper production never changed location, all vipers were built at CAAP
(Conner Avenue Assembly Plant) from 1992 - 2017. Prefix and Arrow
both had special permits for customized cars (ACRs, ACRX, Medusas,
ect...)

They were produced at the New Mack factory until 1996, when production moved to CAAP.

I thought New Mack only produced the motors? Were the entire
Gen1s built there?

All 1st gen RT-10’sup till mid96 rolled off the New Mack production line. The RT-was not produced at all during the second half of 96 when production was moved to CAAP. The 96 is a gen 1.5, which is why it was given a special paint/striping. The 97 RT-10 is considered to be a 2nd Gen car as it shares 90% of its parts with the other models produced at CAAP.
