Hello all -
In planning strategy for our upcoming 8 hour endurance race (Saturday!), one of the most critical aspects is the number of fuel stops that we'll need to make.

We are trying to determine whether the 1996 RT got the larger Gen I tank (over 20 gallons) or the smaller (19 gallon) Gen II tank.

So far, the owner's manual / service manual says 19 gallons, but it's not like those things have ever been wrong.... Other owners have stated emphatically that the 1996 RT of theirs definitely had the larger tank.

If we can't find out, we may have to pump all the fuel out of it to check, but we'd rather not have to do that....

Anyone?

Thanks.....

Hey Janni,
How are you? It was great meeting you at VOI 7. I have never put in more than 18.5 gallons in my 96 (I was bone dry). I believe it is the 19 gallon tank, but maybe Chuck Tator can confirm this. Good luck on the race.

Mike,
Thanks - great meeting you too! Always nice to put a face with a (screen)name.

I have had some help from PVO and they think the car got the larger tank. Others said early RTs have the larger, and later get the smaller. On our 1996 GTS's, we have never been able to put more than 16 gallons in them, and that was with them having fuel pickup issues on the track around turns, so my guess is that your 18.5 may actaully support the larger tank theory....

On several occasions I was able to put 19 to 20 gallons in my old 96RT10.
I do believe it is the larger tank. I used to get 335 miles to a tank on the highway. Then fill up only 18.5 or 19.5 gallons. Don't know for sure, but I would say larger.

In my SRT10 on the same trips I was taking in the 96RT10 I only can do 285 miles before fill up. 18 gallon tank in SRT10.

Hope this helps.

Janni, I can't help as I always fill up when it hits 1/4 tank, but if you find out for sure can you let up know? I've always gone under the assumption it was 19 gallons.

AS the millionaire show used to say....

Is that your final answer?

And yes, it is - it's 19 gallons.

Looks like we'll be stopping as we had planned for fuel - guess they'll have to make up the time by driving even faster.... :)

As one final option, Janni, try a call to JonB...as I remember the correction to my post that he made on this very topic concerning a question from a new owner planning a cross-country trip home...as I recall, ONE year of RT/10 MAY have a 21 gal. tank...but I'm NOT sure of this...(and you KNOW I'm senile !!!)
