1998/9 vs 2000 RT/10

I am looking at a 2000 RT/10 and was wondering if there was any reason to NOT look at 1998/1999 RT/10's

I own a C5 Corvette and the general rule of thumb is to get the newest year you can afford, does the same apply here.

The C5 Vette has gone through some growing pains as the years past it got better and better.

What is the main reason to get a 2000 over a 1998/9 RT/10?

The 2000 has the cast pistons and no ABS, kind of an off year. If you're going to put a power adder on the car, go with the 1997 through 1999 and get the forged pistons. If you can swing a 2001 you would get the ABS brakes. :usa:

What is the differnce with cast pistons vs forged pistons. Better longevity better durablity with forged? Lighter weight with cast?

Did the 2001 go back to forged pistons?

When we take a survey, usually 1998 and 1999 are the most desirable years...few problems, 708 Cam, Forged Pistons.

The least desirable year is 2000. Mild Cam, No ABS, Cast Pistons.

2001 added ABS and some people want that.

If you must have a Blue and White car...then 1996 or 1997.

Most sought after car is the 1998 GT2.

Not only are yellow Vipers faster, 2001 yellow Vipers are faster and stop better!

So it seems that I have picked and odd year and color to like.

I guess I should look for a 2001? and here I was thinking that this Black 2000 RT/10 was hot.. :)

Cast vs. forged is only important if you plan to run a blower or nitrous and then only if you want to go above about 600RWHP. If you are not planning these power adders or at least don't need more than about 700HP at the engine, then don't let that keep you from picking up the '00 if you like it.

Cam change is mainly related to how roughly the engine idles, but all genII's have the same lift and duration cam, so that isn't really much of a factor for you to weight unless you prefer the rougher idle of the older cam.

I'd personally look for a car that you like for body style and color and which does not have signs of being in a wreck or tracked heavily and go for it.

Oil consumption problems on early 2000's (somewhere around the first 200) requiring Arrow rebuilds. Be sure to check the build dates.
