ARE ALL OF THE VIPER INTERIORS VOID OF STORAGE SPACE EXCEPT FOR THE LITTLE BOX BEHIND YOUR ELBOW??

MY 2001 HAS A HUGH CENTER CONSOLE WITH NO RECESSES AND THICK DOOR PANELS WITHOUT POCKETS? . THE LITTLE BOX IS A PAIN TO GET TO..

I DONT EXPECT CUP HOLDERS..

BUT IF YOU DRIVE YOUR CAR AND HAVE ANY NORMAL THINGS
(CHANGE,GLASSES,OPENER,COMB, FLASHLIGHT,KEYS ECT) WHERE CAN YOU PUT THEM?

THEY GIVE YOU A CD PLAYER BUT NO PLACE TO PUT THE CD BOX OR EVEN 1 EXTRA CD?

IT SEEMS LIKE THERE IS A TON OF EMPTY SPACE THAT IS TOTALLY WAISTED FOR NO REASON..

YEP!

The gas tank is mounted in between you and the trunk compartment. Up front the engine actually comes back into the dash a bit then there's the huge transmissions tunnel. Passenger side airbag, two footwells and your little storage space you mentiond. after you get the top in the trunk you can have a bit of stuff. Concerned about space? Get a GTS, still not enough get a caddy or C5, same difference.

To store glasses and such there are little nets on the front of the seats, and behind the seats there is a little pocket, just move the seats forward to access.

Yep space is a real scarcity.

I purchased 2 "pouches" that fit along the sides of the tunnel for putting remotes, cell phone and the like. One of the Viper after market sources carrys them.

Sweet mother of God, first of all is your caps lock key stuck? I think all those caps are going to make me go blind.
laugh.gif

I don't know if you have a GTS or an RT/10, but I keep my change in the ash tray, glasses in the over head webbing (I am sure an RT/10 won't have this I imagine), opener attached to the visor, comb I leave at home, flashlight you could probably store that in the hatch or trunk, the keys of course go in the ignition
biggrin.gif
so I don't understand what the problem is there. Anything else I can't fit in the storage bin, I just give to my girlfriend to hold on to.
laugh.gif
Sorry I could not be of more help, but I really don't keep much in my Viper anyways. That way things don't slid around when I take a corner at around 80 or so. Yeah, there may not be much storage space but you'll forget all about that when you drive it around for awhile.

I have a 2001 RT/10
and yes storage is minimal but you can make life easier by
using a few things.
First, for sunglass and a pack of gum use the cargo nets in
front of the seats. Also the garage door opener goes there.
Use passenger side for most stuff.
For cds go out and get a visor cd holder (mine holds 10)
and jam it between the passenger seat and center console.
that way you have easy access to them and no problems.
proof of insurance and other stuff goes into the cubby glove box.
that's it. what else would you need?

good luck

THEY OFFER AIR CONDITIONING,POWER WINDOWS, 200 WATT STEREO WITH CD PLAYER BUT THEY WONT GIVE THE OWNER ANY STORAGE...

SEEMS STUPID TO ME..

THERE IS OBVIOUSLY ENOUGH DEPTH ON THE CENTER CONSOLE FOR THE ASH TRAY. SO THERE COULD BE A LARGE 4X10 INCH RECESS THERE.

ALMOST EVERY OTHER CAR HAS DOOR POCKETS..

MY VIPER DOOR PANELS PROTRUDE AROUND 4-5 INCHES.. THERE COULD EASILY BE LARGE POCKETS THERE...EVEN IF THERE WAS NOT A LID..

EVEN A TRAY UNDER THE DASH WOULD BE HELPFUL OR NETTING ON THE SIDE OF THE CENTER CONSOLE...

IF YOU NEED CHANGE FOR A TOLLWAY WHAT DO YOU DO? STOP, UNDO THE SEATBELT CRANE AROUND AND OPEN THE LITTLE BOX THEN TAKE EVERYTHING OUT TO FIND CHANGE..

THAT IS RIDICULOUS..

EVEN MY COBRA HAD A GLOVE BOX AND DOOR PANELS..

Well, you could always trade your Viper in for a Vette. Heck, they even have cupholders. I don't think creature comforts was what the Viper design team had in mind. Performance is the number one objective.

Solution:

1)Buy lots of Cargo pants
2)Tolltag...
There...are we at least moving in the right direction? You've got a great car and we want you to enjoy it.

No Flame Intended...Just Observation,

No creature comforts?? Yeah Right!

What do you the consider the following ?

1.Air Conditioning
2.Power Windows
3.Power Mirrors
4.Power Door Locks
5.ABS Brakes
6.Keyless Entry
7.Alarm System
8.Reclining Leather Seats with Lumbar Supports
9.Dual Air Bags with On/Off Switch
10.Removable Rear Window with 2 Key Locks
11.Hard and Soft Tops
12.Intermittent Wipers
13.200 watt Stereo with CD and Subwoofer
14.Tilt Steering Wheel
15.Little Chimes to Remind you The Lights Are On

The car would probably be 500 lbs lighter without this stuff. But they saved 8 OZ of weight by eliminating interior storage..

I quess that all of the new Nascar, Indy and F1 cars will come with these non-creature comfort options next year!

EXECMALIBU,

Do you own a Viper? If so did you not check out the storage situation before you bought it? No flame intended, but if these things were so important to you why did you buy the Viper to begin with. The tone of your posts indicates to me that you are very disastisfied with the car. Perhaps a sedan would be more to your liking.

I think Bob K is being a little rude. No one here is going to suggest you sell your viper and get a sedan. It is very apparent that you are much more of a Vette guy than a sedan guy.

Not enough power per liter and now not enough storage room? This guy needs a F1 with seating for four and room for luggage.

Common EXECMALIBU,

If the car was perfect, it wouldn't have any character. It's just part of the Viper image. Engine, frame, huge tires, and a gorgeous body. Not much else....... Personally, I like it this way.

P.S. - I saw your reply regarding the Viper's 'scare factor' vs. your original 427 Cobra in another post. Your correct, if you keep your Viper stock. Go to 3.73 gears, Tubes/Filters, and Exhaust - Your opinion may change. I never drove an original 427, but did drive a Superformance 427 Cobra replica, with a 460 (500+HP crate motor) at 2400 lbs (Note: RWHP is much lower, probably around 370 - much like the old muscle cars RWHP rating). My Viper feels/is much stronger than that car. To me, a stock Viper with stock gears feels like a dog in first gear. I was used to 'stump' pulling gears in muscle cars, before I purchased the Viper. Change your gear ratio to 3.73's, and that 'out-of-hole-explosiveness' you felt in the 427 Cobra will be there. The big difference will be the Viper will keep pulling like crazy until top speed - where as the Cobra had horrible aerodynamics, thus slowing at higher speeds. Now with 3.73's, you will have to practice launching and clutch modulation to prevent wheel spin. But I'm sure your familiar with these techniques. Good Luck...

Sounds like a lot of complaining after the fact. I'd rather have the safety of airbags than a place to store CD's. Your Viper has to be more driver friendly than your Cobra, right? Enjoy the "haves" not the "have nots" of your new Viper.

Also,

I saw your reply about HP/per liter. I'm no engineer, but I think there is diminishing returns with cubic inches. For example, F1 car with around 1.7 liter make 900HP+. Around 1 Liter Hayabusa motor makes 170 (I think). 2 Liter S2000 Honda makes 240HP. Let me do the math:

*If F1 was 8 liters, would it make 4235 HP?
*If Hayabusa was 8 liters, would it make 1360 HP?
*If S2000 was 8 liters, would it make 960 HP?

I guess my point is this: If you could magically scale up a S2000 motor times 4, making it 8 Liters, I don't think it would produce 960 HP. But I may be wrong. Engineers, where are you?

YES I DO OWN VIPER RT-10 AS OF SUNDAY!

I THINK THAT THE CAR LOOKS GREAT! IS REAL FAST AND IS OVERALL AMAZING !

BUT THERE ARE A FEW THINGS THAT BUG ME..

1.MY CAR IS NOT A BARE BONES, LIGHT-WEIGHT, RADIO DELETE, RACE CAR! LIKE THE FIRST 1992 VIPERS WERE..

I WANTED A CAR WITH ALL OF THE BELLS AND WHISTLES. THAT IS WHY I BOUGHT A 2001 WITH ABS AND ALL OF THE OTHER OPTIONS...THE LIST PRICE ON THIS CAR WAS OVER $76,000.

I WAS OF THE MISTAKEN OPINION THAT A FULLY OPTIONED MODEL WOULD HAVE SOMETHING AS BASIC AS A MINIMUM OF INTERIOR STORAGE.. IF THERE WAS NO ROOM FOR THE STORAGE IT WOULD NOT BOTHER ME. BUT THERE CLEARLY ARE MANY AMPLE AREAS FOR STORAGE. I FEEL LIKE D/C CHEAPED OUT ON SOMETHING REAL SIMPLE..

2. THE OTHER RIDICULOUS THING THAT EVERYONE AGREES ON IS THE TRUNK SUPPORT.. WHAT A JOKE! ALSO A WOOD OR PLASTIC COVER OVER THE SPARE TIRE SHOULD BE STANDARD..

3. THEN THERE IS THE SOFT TOP! WHAT AN ENGINEERING NIGHTMARE..I BOUGHT MY CAR USED AND THE ORIGINAL OWNER SAID THAT HE WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT IT TAKES 15-20 MINUTES TO INSTALL.

SOME HOW THE CANVAS TOP WAS RIPPED AND QUESS WHAT! D/C DOES NOT SELL THE CANVAS SEPARATELY! YOU HAVE TO BUY A NEW TOP @ $2,650!

YOU CAN BET IF A TOP IS VANDALIZED. THAT THE INSURANCE CO WILL TAKE A DEPRECIATION AND IT WILL COST AN OWNER AROUND $1,500 TO REPLACE HIS TOP..PLUS AS TIME GOES ON YOU KNOW THE D/C PRICE WILL RISE!

I HAVE SEEN SIMILAR POSTS ON THIS SITE ABOUT THE SAME ISSUES..

Didnt you looked through (examined) the car BEFORE buying it? Your fault.

I find it really hard to beleive you find this car impractical when you had an original 427 cobra? I feel that maybe your knowledge provided someone with a GREAT DEAL on that car.

Next time, hire a purchasing consultant or something, it'd be worth it, or at least drive one for 15 mins before you buy it.

And another thing WHY DOES YOUR CAPS LOCK KEY KEEP GETTING PUT BACK ON???IS IT STUCK? MIGHT WANNA GO ON A LOGITECH MESSAGE BOARD AND COMPLAIN THERE AS WELL

To answer the question about where to put CDs - that's what the box/pouch above the center storage box is for on a GTS. I can fit about a dozen CDs in there if they are in the slimline plastic cases. However, that doesn't do anything to address your RT/10 issue. I would suggest a soft case that holds about 20 CDs. Slide it between the left rocker panel and the seat bottom. If you are on a trip of any length, you need to explore ways to use the space between the floor and the bottom of the seat cushion. Travel with the top on - it frees up trunkspace. Leave the top assembled and keep it in the garage when the weather's nice. The top only takes 20 minutes to assemble the first time. The first rainstorm you get caught in, I bet you'll get it down to under 2 minutes.

That big center console thingy has no room in it for your movie scripts, dictionary sized "black books" full of phone #s of Hollywood_starlets_willing_to_blow_you, or a full line of skin-tightening and exfoliating creams ... all the things so necessary to keep on hand for a Malibu Exec. That center console thingy between the seats is already occupied ... it's full of something called a TRANSMISSION

Did you just call up Ovitz and scream ... "Get me a cheeseburger, a new rolling stone, and while you're at it, a viper!"

I have been around Vipers for years, and while some may consider lack of storage space a Viper weak-point, it has not been a bother to me. If you were to look beneath the skin of the Viper's interior, you will find precious little wasted space. Under the console..the transmission, and not too far under either. The gas tank fills the area behind the seats. Remember (GTS) that there are storage nets in the roof, storage nets and pockets on the seats, a cubby bin between the seats and a real lockable glovebox between the seats. You mention thick doors. The doors have so little useable space inside that electric windows had to be used as normal mechanisms don't fit. You really did not buy a luxury car here...you bought a race car with wipers and turn signals.

I believe AC was a factory option in 94 (mine has it). Also, the hard top was optional (mine also has it).

P.S. I forgot to mention there are NO door handles on my car!! (hows that for a creature comfort???) No offense, but you looked at a Viper before you bought it right?? Was this not an issue then?

Maybe for some of the people that responded to my posts the Viper is their first Exotic car and they dont know what is normally standard! I said some of the people!!

I should Explain that I am a serious car collector and have owned literally hundreds of Vintage Exotic and Hi perf cars..

The Viper is a MODERN Exotic car designed and built at a time when almost everyone has a remote opener, cell phone, credit cards, gate card keys or other misc small personal items. In my humble opinion there is no excuse for not providing space for these items..

Especially since All of the following Exotic cars I have or do own. That were designed and built in the fifties and sixties, LONG before some of these items were ever dreamed of had a space for them..

For Example:

My 1957 Porsche Speedster which is as spartan as it gets has large pockets in the kick panels.

My 1966 427 Cobra had a glovebox and door pockets.

My 1968 Shelby KR Conv had a glovebox and box in the center console.

My 1966 E type Jag had a glovebox and a box in the center console.

My 1973 Ferrari Daytona had a glovebox

My 1967 427 Vette Roadster had a Glovebox

My 1973 Ferrari Dino Spyder has a glovebox and door pockets.

My 1971 Mercedes 280Sl has a Glovebox and a box in the center console.

My 1973 Porsche 911S has a glovebox and doorpockets.

My 1971 454 LS-5 Chevelle Conv had a glove box and box in center console

My 1971 440 Cuda Conv had a glovebox and box in the center console.

My 1966 Ferrari 330GTS had a glovebox and box in the center console

My 1963 Porsche Carrera 2 Cabriolet had a glovebox and door pockets

My Friends 1957 Mercedes Gullwing has interior pockets.

Only my 1955 Porsche 550 SPYDER came without interior storage.. But the car only weighed 1200 LBS...

These were ALL considered to be the EXOTIC CAR of their day by the builders and they ALL had space for personal items.
