there is no way i would be able to keep that car. 30k for fed, 8k for state, 7k for state sales tax. thats 45k right there in taxes only. now excise tax every year on 100k car and to insure that thing would be very pricey. now include all my other toys and house.... thats a boatload of taxes. you know that show where they take some poor slobs house and tear it down and put up a monster house? i forget the name. they did that around here for some guy who has orphan children. no more house payment but the guy is in trouble because his new tax bill is much more than his previous mort. + tax bill combined. he is going to have to sell it in this dirt market. that is just shocking to me.

This is a B-J car, anything but eBay. And as for the taxes, they could get a small auto loan to cover it...the taxes aren't that much, even on a car like that!

I don't like buying cars off ebay, so I would have imagined that a collector car auction would have been more appropriate, however they are open to do what they want. No crisitsm from me.

If they would have raced it and crashed it, everyone would have said "awe", but them selling it like they are, people want to crucify them.

In the end, it is just another car. Collectible more than others, "yes". But remember that the Viper's time is still not there for collectibility. No one in their right mind, is going to pay 20 years from now prices, today.

Me, I am betting the reserve its $110K and worth it. A very low mile Viper GT2 collector car is in that same area and is also a collector car. This is a used car with the stuffing beat out of it. I would take a fully loaded, just the way I want brand new ACR for $10K less. Just me though.

Wow- 30k?

Why so high?

The value of the car needs to be claimed as income. If valued at $100K and you're in a 30% tax bracket you owe $30K in taxes. Probably in a higher tax bracket than this so probably can't blame him. Besides, what's it matter. Already a viper owner, no it will not go up in value, certainly not compared to what he could do with the proceeds from the sale properly invested. Good luck with the sale, but as he says in the listing it's going to the Russo & Steel auction in Montery, Ca if it doesn't meet reserve. I am looking forward to seeing it there.:D

In Michigan by law, you pay 28% of the winning value (MSRP) before the vehicle is released. Also, I paid $5350.00 in state sales tax and registration fees. When I complete my 2008 income tax return, I will have to pay an more state and federal taxes because of my tax bracket. Like my buddy and fellow VCA member who is a CPA said to me, I hope you know that you just won a great car and a $40,000.00 tax liability. The winning value is considered income and as you know, we all pay income taxes. I'm still very happy to have won this great car.

Is it possible to auction the winning ticket instead of the car, could it save anyone money or trouble?

Sorry guys but I would have had to do the same thing. $40k+right now even for a rare Viper is still some serious coin. Unless money is no object.

The other thing to remember is that BJ Auctions are "no reserve". Therefor he cannot protect his investment. That is probably why he is going with the other auction service, just my guess.

To me the first ACR is an anomaly.

You cant track it (well technically you can, but you get the idea) like it was meant to be if you want to keep the value in it, and you cant really drive it on the street.

So unless you're a collector who doesnt mind having a car sit in the garage for several years and puttin a couple of hundred miles on it a year, you wont have any use for it. And the value of selling it now is at least 70k, but likely closer to 100k profit.

Honestly I would do the same, sell it to a collector.

But IMO with CAFE laws coming in so hard, I think by the Time this ACR reaches an insane amount of value, it will only be worth money to a museum.

Bidding has ended on the car with reserve not being met at $95,202.00 . There were 30 bids on the car, wonder how many from this site?

The first of any year/model is rarely, if ever, worth any more than the
2nd or 20th. If it was the LAST ACR made, it might be a different story.

I was going to bid, but I thought $30,000, my 2005 Ford 500, and my Sears riding lawnmower would not quite cut it. Guess I was right. Maybe I should have thrown in free bowling lessons. :rolaugh:
