maybe so, but the production company that makes the programme for the BBC is owned by Clarkson, and ive read a great contract means he gets a nice chunk of cash for everything in the TG brand, the monthly magazine, merchandise etc from around the world
I see I'm not the only one totally enthused about a Viper ACR getting tested on TG's track with the STIG.
If anybody ever watches Justin.tv > entertainment section, they always show Top Gear episodes. I always complain about them not testing the newer '08+ Vipers (Coupe/Vert/ACR), Jtv has a chat bar on the side...
This reminds me of the thread I made a few months back about AUTOart making 1:18 scale of the Viper ACR's. I'm pretty sure there will be a huge following once the '10 ACR or ACR-X runs at the Nurburgring with factory backing and days of lapping. (like nissan did with the GTR)

Just guessing here, but IMHO the real reason Dodge changed the 5th gear ratio (lowered it) for the 2010 model year has to be that they are planning to run the ring AGAIN!

I have to agree with Dan here. After drving the 'Ring this past summer you really need a stronger 5th gear to deal with the lenght of the uphill straight. Got to be 3-4 seconds right there. You don't need 5th anywhere else but there.

Oh, and 5th Gear isn't nearly as strong as Top Gear!
I love Top Gear - I haven't missed an episode for years. 5Th Gear is also pretty good but not nearly as good as Top Gear. I do like Tiff and Jason though.
Top Gear Australia is not as much fun as going to the dentist. It's TERRIBLE!

A little MORE off topic, but the title of your post is a lure. Shame on ya.
Too bad, Jay Leno would not tell NBC to stick it, and start a Top Gear North America show, all while touring the greatest race tracks in America for testing. I think he personally would get more out of it, people value his opinion as it is very unbaised and it would bring so much credibility to cars here in America. Now I have not seen Jay do power slides before, but maybe he has that in him.
He could sign on a few others to help like Tim Allen, Patrick Demsey, etc. the real car guys in Hollywood (familiar types) that do have some respect in racing and appeal to he public
Great idea and would also promote racing here in the USA. Nothing saying that with the proper exposure and interest that a USA track could not be eventually built to rival the awesomeness of The Ring. Call it "RING-A-DING-DING".

Regarding Top Gear USA, there actually was a show, it was suppose to be an off shoot of the UK show. The hosts were Adam Carolla, Tanner Foust and one other guy whose name I can't remember. The idea was to have a comic, a real race car driver and a more liberal type (the guy how I can't remember).
I do believe one complete pilot was done for NBC, but the timing was really bad. It was towards the end of 2008 IIRC, the economic world was going to hell, car companies were not advertising and the "car" was being blamed for a lot of the worlds ills (everyone was jumping onto the hybrid bandwagon).
I had communicated with the producer about a future skit but the show was getting the axe. I don't think most people here in the USA really realize how big of a production Top Gear UK actually is. It has great direction, great writing and they do seem to spend a crap load on the quality of the production. With the right hosts and the writing and support to match, I do think Top Gear USA would be a hit. It would be very tough to match the boys across the pond for the way they click together though.

forget the 5th Gear programme, its finished and got axed
i here the TG prgramme has a budget around £100K per episode, the last series before xmas they admitted on air they hadnt budget'ed very well and ran out of cash, so the last show wasnt particularly good, and they just filled in by waffling on the set trying to kill time
