If anyone thinks the Gen.5 Viper will be cheaper than a ZR1,(125,000.00) ish you are dreaming. The New Viper is as good or bettter than the ZR1,it should Not be cheaper. Not that I want to pay more for my new Viper, but I am prepaired to.

Very well put !! You guys want the Viper to be priced as much if not cheaper than a Vette...lol..comon...be realistic...if it does come cheaper, it will be embarrasing to say the least. Not for the buyer ofcourse,,since we all want to afford one, but for the respect. Faster, better interior and of course better lines, and CHEAPER !!? lol...I hope not. I wish they would have made the GTS-R into the new ACR Version and priced it at 180,000 and gave it 750 Hp....now that would have turned heads !! No lambo, no Ferrari, no GT40. I wont even mention the Vette and Mustang as they would not even be in the same conversation at that point. Unfortunatly , now they are with this Viper. Still,,its better than the ZR1 so price it so.

Oh..and not to add to insult there DMan, but,,, for the bang for your buck issue....you could always get an Ugly lineless Nissan (GTR) or a high school sweetheart Mustang for under 100000 and drive around all day looking for takers....not saying you would , just opening the wound you didnt want to touch...:D

It's cool, I know some guys like to show off or get their props by how much money they spent on a car. You and they think respect comes from a price tag, no worries, everybody has got their thing. Mine is performance, I'd dare to say that's true of most Viper guys, but who knows. Like I say, it's just my opinion that the viper price point is part of what the car is, but IMHO.

As for insult, again no prob, I know where you're comin from. I would say that I do have a mustang, 2 actually, I've had 8 in total, I've had a lot of cars like most here, have 7 cars and 6 motorcycles now, gear head for sure, track hound at birth. $2100 invested in the GT500 which I picked up from dealer for under$60k loaded, runs 10.90's all day in the heat, and I've yet to not pass anything on the road course with it, including several Z06's, 911s, Etc., it's seen more road course than any of my other cars. And every other time I drive I got thumbs up, cell pics and vids taken, people coming up and asking me about it. Yep, real embarrassing. LoL.

When I spent time with Ralph one thing he said that I loved, was about him affording the car and his wife being ok with it because he doesn't just get one he too has to buy it. Great guy, I know whatever the price is, his input was on the side of the performance enthusiast, but end of the day accountants voices are loud. I'm crossing my fingers you don't get what you want. Guys can always demonstrate $ in the car with showy mods, wheels and things so we can all get what we want that way, not sayin one is right or wrong, just opinion.

Corvette production has been cut way back because it didn't sell well. Neither did the ZR1. Most were heavily discounted. Referencing the ZR1 here is pointless to me because I honestly feel that it is over priced.

This......

I agree completely. If they overshoot the ZR1, IMO it is a mistake - because the ZR1 is overpriced.

Lol. Boy, I sure hope the new ACR is over $180k when they make them don't you ViperJon?. I mean I sure would much rather shell out $180k as opposed to a miserly $130k+ for the new one.:rolaugh:

You honestly think if the viper was priced over the zr1 it would sell and be successful? The worst mistake Ralph and SRT can make is not learn from what is happening to the zr1.

2009 (peak zr1 production) 1577 units
2011 806 units
2012 404 units

Yes, there is a huge market for the >120k American car, lol.

Ralph is a smart guy and I believe he recognizes this, but I honestly believe he is at someone else's mercy on this one. We shall see.

Simply, couldn't agree more.

You know, it's a bit annoying that this type of news is broadcasted on a free public twitter site and not taking time to share the news initially on the Viper Club of America who actually pay $ to be a member and at minimum on the Members Only section. Sure at least members had the opportunity to check out the concept car at a VOI event, but even stuff like this could be exposed within the club first to read exclusive news and updates, you know.... it just makes you feel special...

I can't be bothered to do the twitter thing.. maybe that's my problem. Maybe the VCA could figure out how to capture and post updated tweets from Ralph and post them, synchronize some type up updated information on-site blog that's being broadcasted.

Rant off... can't wait to hear what the prices are... so for time being, I'll ask my niece to search twitter for the latest updates on Viper prices or hood louver pics...

Cheers
Mike

As any good manager or leader it is Ralph's goal and responsibility to get his people as much bang for the buck as he can. I think by tomorrow everyone will be surprised by how much we are getting for how low a price. I think it is going to be lower than the majority here think.May be wishful thinking on my part as if we are into a buck and a quarter territory, I am pretty much out (no silver spoon in my mouth). Ralph is from the non spoon sides of the tracks too, it will be priced with bang for the buck in mind.

Ralph made it clear months ago that the base model would start at a price roughly equivalent to where the Gen IV base was previously. Many seem to be forgetting how much money per car was freed up by the Bankruptcy. If I recall correctly, it was about $6000.00. So it is not a stretch to deliver more car for the same, or inflation adjusted the same, money. One thing for sure, whatever it is, talking about it, will not result in a Gen V in anyone's driveway. That requires a purchase.

The response for the look of the GTS-R has been pretty overwhelming. Everyone is wanting this to become reality on a street version. So of this is the futurure ACR I think it will be far more expensive than the std line up of the Viper. Maybe not as much as 180K but I cant see how it could be much under 150-160K. This since its using completely different body panels. I don't think there is much more than the roof that would be used off the SRT and GTS (haven't looked at it piece by piece so I may be wrong). If you are considering the tooling needed to produce a whole different car, the expense will certainly be there. If the car is also that much wider, the chassis has to follow. So an exclusive front and rear end as well.

I have not looked that closely at the ACR's of the past but it appears to be added parts to existing body panels. Its not using different doors, fenders, hatch, hood, front and rear apron etc. Sure, plenty of part that obviously makes a big difference for high speed performance but again.....pretty much bolt on stuff.

To consider the tooling just to support an even more limited production car than the std models....this ACR, if built like the GTS-R will most definitely be a pricey model.

One of the problems for the corvette and its various iterations is the fact that the GS, the Z06 and the ZR1 all look the same. They all have the wide body, the front splitter etc...The Z06 and ZR1 can be made to look the same with carbon splitter and other optional pieces. There just wasn't enough differentiation between the three from a visual standpoint. If you are going to pay $115 +/- you want the car to differentiate itself not only from a performance standpoint. The brand was diluted with so many different C6 offerings. (I believe 7 in all) The Viper won't share this problem.

Interesting and insightful. Hope you are correct.

My Guess:

Base SRT: 98k
Base GTS: 117k

In the future:
Base ACR: 125k
Base Supercharged Version: 129K
Supercharged ACR: 150k (One can dream :) )

130,000+ You cant add all of that technology and expect it to run the same price as a Gen IV. Take a look at the other SRT vehicles as well. My Jeep SRT-8 was $45,000 fully loaded... the new ones are around $65,000. Performance is not any better than mine was buit the interior and technology is much better. Expect at least the same price jump for the Viper. By the way whoever said the ZR1 is over priced that simply crazy. Look at the performance you get compared to high end exotics... its pretty easy to see its a good deal. The Viper will be better... by far.
