I have always loved the look and styling of the GTS and I have finally decided that my SRT-10 needs a friend in the garage.

Now, I don't know much about the differences from year to year which prompted this question.

Basically what GTS year should I be looking for and why? Some have said that 2001 is the year to buy..............and I should also be looking for an ACR.

Thanks for your help.

Depends on what you prefer. ABS brakes? Then 2001 and up. Forged pistons if you want to mod? Then 1999 and earlier.
Not sure? Then 2000. (J/K 2000 owners)

'96 1st year... great color
'97 good year for RT/10's and still blue and whites
'98 factory headers (23lbs lighter) and better alarm
'99 18" wheels, rear glass release, remote mirrors
'00 1st year cast pistons / 1st year stronger factory frame
'01 1st year of ABS!
'02 ABS and all the improvemtns over the years... last year for the GTS and the best in my mind.

If you get a 96 to 99 make sure the 998 and 999 recal work was done right. They dealer needed to weld some gussets to the frame and also weld a gusset front steering section. Not a big deal, unless it was done wrong!

As stated above!

If you want or need forged internals than 99 is the best option (unless you want a B&W one :) )

If you have to have ABS or another color option (graphite looks damn nice) then go with the 2001 or 02.

Just to help you out some...

Black was only available in 1999 and 2000
Silver was only available in 1998 and 1999
Blue and white was only available in 1996 and 1997

If you want red, your a lucky man, pick a year :)

For me, there was only one choice, 2000 Steel Gray. I got more compliments on the color than I did the car. honestly
The pre-fix post on custom Vipers has me thinking about a steel gray SRT/Coupe.

If you spend a ton of time on the track.... go with a Gen 3 Coupe. If you want the BEST looking car, get a gen 2 GTS!

Yes but a 2004 rag top.

FYI I have a 99 and 98 GTS, as well as,a 2003 SRT and the GTS's are like trucks compared to the SRT10.

If I had the garage space for another Viper, I'd buy a GTS over the coupe. The coupe is a great genIII Viper, but the GTS is classic genII.

Wormdoggy - Yes, I am biased, but I like your style. I look at it like this, if you are going to mod your car, then other than the money for swapping out the pistons, the 01 can be modded as heavily as any other car here. Some people make it seem like if you have an 01 or 02 you are stuck. That is just incorrect.

01 and 02 have ABS. In the real driving world, this can be a life saver. 01 is the only year for Sapphire. If you are looking for an ACR with Sapphire, good luck. Not many out there. If I see anything out there, I will PM you.

I agree and I am looking for a GTS not the SRT-10 Coupe. I have made the space in my garage. Now I just need to find the car.

Here's my garage that I just finished. All this for another car.......!!!

Thanks for your help.
At this point I am just in the process of collecting informtion. The guys in the VCO club are helping me as well. I have the 2004 SRT-10 vert and I love it, but I do agree the the GTS will be a classic if it isn;t already.

Cheers

If a Classic GEN II GTS is the goal start with the 98 GT2.

Or one could select by the latest improvements, that would start with the 2001-2001 GTSs'

Or make the choice by the color combo you like best.

In time all Vipers will be classic.

Like you I love my 2003 SRT10.

I also love my 99ACR(track toy) and 98 GT2.

From my overall enjoyment of the driving experience of a coupe, I would get the 2006 SRT10 Coupe.

No matter what appeals most, you will love the rag top coupe combo. :2tu:

Re: 2ND VIPER .....I need a GTS

I´m trying to decide also, but I am leaning to a SRT/10, a 99, 00, 01, or 02. Which is the best year? I am not planning on modifying the engine and I want a vert, no coupe for me. I like a different color too, not the same old red, black, etc.

Do ABS brakes really help over normal brakes?

Please advise.

Thanks
