70k and thinking I should get new rotors

With ~70k on the car now, I'm thinking with my next brake pad change in a few months that I should put on new rotors. Yes/no/maybe? If so, what should I go for on a primarily street / daily driver that makes sense from a performance and cost perspective?

I got a few turned rotors.. I went over board, and got quite a few from folks, so if you need a set, let me know, I will give them to you for my cost (which is only shipping and getting turned).

I would. At 70K you've probably worn off enough material. For a street driven daily driver I would stick to stock. maybe go slotted for a little better braking.

Do you mean you have some used ones that have been turned and therefore are ready to go? Remember, I've got a 98 with 17" tires, would that matter?

Would slotted, drilled, etc. really give any better braking, or do they just help with gas venting and only really get any benefit when tracking any having high gas buildup?

Haven't received anything yet. But thanks!

There are 7 sets at the shop right now, should be ready to go by third week in January. Want powder coat? Only $80....

There's a lot of debate on the benefits or lack thereof of both, but in theory both should help with venting AND slotted should help with glazing which should translate into better braking. True the most benefit (in theory) should be from track driven cars, but I'm sure every now and then you like to take that spirited drive or that windy mountain road. I prefer the slotted rotor over cross drilled. Have I seen any benefit? None that has been scientifically measured. Just going on theory and perception. Is it worth the money? Probably not.

check ebay, they have some decent looking slotted/dimpled ones CHEAP for like $200 for a set of 4. for what you do they will be good and last awhile. Especially since i hear you drive like a girl! hehe JK

lol, I know your car... and I'd beat it on the track if you would ever show up :)

Anyway, yes, they are turned and ready to go. I only had them cleaned up, just to make sure that a new set of pads would bed with them. I have something like 10 rotors (not on the car), 4 fronts and 6 rears (all turned). They work on all gen 1/gen2 vipers.

Those things are pretty BLING  . I would not use those on the track since they would probably crack under hard braking but.... since you drive like a girl, I guess they would be OK. :D

I'd go for the ones that are slotted only, since cross-drilled rotors tend to crack.

Rotors usually only have 1-2 mm of wear before they are below minimum spec. I've got a rotor caliper to measure your rotors if you are considering turning them. However, why risk thin rotors that might warp on you? Then again, I'm not sure how thick the Ebay rotors are. You MIGHT be better off with turned stock rotors.

Anyone know the stock rotor measurements?

Well, aren't we the little troll, hoarding all the rotors you can get ahold of :D

Thanks for (almost) all the responses.

To those with the girl-driving comments, who's got 70k on their Viper? Yeah, you go, garage queens. ;)

To Jon, thanks for the offer, but with Dan Cragin's comments, I wonder if I should go for the turned?

To all, I think I'll skip the cracking drilled rotors.

Regarding the ebay rotors, note, it costs extra for the bling.

Other than stock, what's good? The eradispeed? Cost difference?

i would go for eradispeed rotors.look great and work great also go with ebs pads.

I'm not worried about bling, just cost and performance. Eradispeed look to be pretty expensive.

If you are going to go to VIR / ViperDays - just go back with stock. Or get some real directionally veined slotted rotors. Cheap rotors will crack and warp with HARD track use - it's your brakes for God's sake - make sure they'll stop the car - not just "look cool".

(Not directed at you, Jon - I know you want "go" and not just "show")

Thanks, I was thinking of calling Tator to check on prices with the Viper discount. What's out there that is good as far as real directionally veined slotted rotors?

We just did Stuart's car with Brembo 2 piece - a little price at about $1,000 for the set, but man they look cool....

StopTech has a 2 piece design that is similar to the Brembo street package...

Sean Roe had a cost effective 2 piece rotor package that uses a Coleman rotor....

Not sure about the viability of anyone else's one piece stock replacement - I think StopTech is out of the business.

If your stock rotors have treated you this well, I think I'd just go with them for about $100 each...

Stock seems the cheapest and to work fine, so that may be the way I go. Heavy, so shipping is expensive though!

Buy locally - dealer eats shipping as it comes on the regular Mopar truck. Doesn't help Chuck Tator, but you are right - shipping is a bear.

I ran the #s and think I save $20 by buying from Tator (discount, but paying S/H), seems good to me!

Don't mean to hijack your thread but... if you are interested, Achilles99 and I are going to the drag strip in Fayetteville on Sunday weather permitting. I just got a new set of drag radials on CCWs I want to try out. I think the times are from 1-5p for the test and tune. I'll be working Saturday night and getting off at 7 AM on Sunday, hope to catch a nap and drive out then. Let me know if any of you locals are interested.
