94 - Alarm Intermittent - Need Help Please

I'm going nuts.

Please help me disable the factory alarm completely.

My 94 RT10 has an intermittant alarm short. It had a viper(aftermarket alarm system that was installed on top of the Factory alarm. They were conflicting.
I had the aftermarket alarm system removed completely. Now while driving the factory alarm will arm itself intermittently when driving.

My wife won't drive the car because shes afraid that she won't be able to get the car started - If she sets the alarm off - fuel pump shut down. She can't remember the reset procedure.

(This really S.U.C.K.S)

The only solution I can figure out - Is to disable the the ALARM completely.

Is this possible?

Greg,

I would first pull the rear wheel, then disconnect the positive battery terminal. Once the postitive terminal is disconnected rub it against the metal battery tray. That will wipe out any memory in the computer. Reconnect the battery and see what happens. I learned this from Chuck Tator. You could possibly need a new alarm brain if the problem still occurs. Call Chuck at Tator's Dodge and get his opinion on the problem. Hope this helps you.

Thanks Tom,

I tried that last week - I put in an Optima Gel battery while I was at it.
I was thinking maybe the battery voltage was too low. But that wasn't it either. I'll call Chuck and see what he has to say...

I would rather just eliminate the alarm completely.

I wonder - if the green wire under the dash - if it was no longer grounded
would shut down the signal to the alarm.

The alarm brain is separate from other brains and comes from another vehicle (which explains why some fobs have three buttons - lock, unlock, and trunk.) The good side of replacing the brain is that you can wire in a door popper if you want.

I guess I'll order a new brain since mine is fading fast! - lol

If it was possible - I would off the entire ECU - Alarm etc.
Put Magnetos and a Ground switch - A Rack of Webers and not worry about it anymore.

I'm Old School - I like my S..T to start. Tne computer nerds can have all this
electronic BS.

That's why - Aircraft (Private plane - have Dual Magnetos, Carbs, Mixture control, analog guages etc.)

(They don't want them falling from Sky!)

Or I guess I could drive my Pantera thats been running for 35 years!

Ha - a '94 Viper is as low tech as you can get these days. Good luck with the new brain; if it's on a minivan or other Dodge, hopefully it's not too expensive.

The Viper service manual has a section on the factory alarm and how to disable it if memory serves correct. If you dont have one(service manual), let me know and I will type that section out for you in a PM.

I found my Alarm and Diagnostics Manual.
I'm going to try and bypass the RKE Module and VTA module.
Then I dont even need the stupid FOB.

I had the exact problem with my 94- car was leaving me stranded with no way to disable the alarm. I tried the entire set of suggested fixes- new battery, ground the green wire, reset the FOB, none of it helped.

I was told by Chuck Tator that the only way to gaurantee a 100% fix was to replace both the alarm controller AND the PCM. Got the parts from him, had my local dealer install- no problems since then.

I actually have the receipt from that...

Appreciate you looking up the part numbers and cost.
The entire GD system of binary bits should be replaced.

The Remote Key Entry (RKE) Module
The Vehicle Theft Alarm (VTA) Module
The PCM Module.

This is such BS - This is How the car will get stolen - stranded on the side of the road.

I'm going to try and bypass the system tonight - If I can - I'll post the fix.
Personally, I don't want the alarm system at all. I'm always with the car.
