96 vs 97 Blue\\White GTS

I love the B\W GTS, but the question is do I go with a 96 or a 97. By default I was thinking 96, since it is the "1st edition" and makes it more collectable, however I have seen a few '97's that are a little lower in price which is attractive.

Looks like the '97 has suddle differences like no stripe through the license plate, turn off switch for the passenger airbag, shinyer polished wheels, and I believe they made less B\W 97 then B\W 96....

Hmmm should I stick to my first gut and stay with the '96 model as it is more collectable?

Your right about the stripe, but the passenger airbag cut off switch started in '98 I believe.

Re: 96 vs 97 Blue\\White GTS

Hi, Ed. This issue has been debated here for years...with folks usually offering strong opinions that "the year they purchased" is THE BEST...surprise, surprise.

While we have a 1997 blue/white (by choice)...I really do not have strong feelings...and fully believe that said decisions between the two models represent personal goals or preferences.

That said, you may want to do a "search" for some of the debates.

Here are two links to get you started:

They also fixed a few things for '97 - like the cast rims that cracked under extreme lateral loads (when tracking) and also the weather stripping problems on the doors, i believe...

There were fewer 96's built and neither had an airbag cutoff. . .

Personally,I picked up a 96 because I love the stripe right down the back, distinguishes it from any other GTS. Not to mention a little somethin to be said for the original.....the start of the sexiest damn car ever built. Can't go wrong either way.

Correct. Less 1997 Blue and White than 96's. (2,119 total Blue and Whites built)

Only 53 Blue and White RT/10's exist. All the rest are GTS's

There were fewer 96's built and neither had an airbag cutoff. . .

There were fewer Blue/white coupes built in 1997. Only 965 to the 1163 in 1996.

IF you are debating, buy whichever one you can find a better deal on. Thats what I would do if I was torn. You won't go wrong either way.

Good advice, that is what I am going to do. As I said I was all about the '96 but then I saw a '97 that was a few thousand less and the cost savings have my interest.

Thanks again

i just liked the number 97 better then 96. Sounded more attractive to me so we went with a 97 b/w. ViperJames is right just find a better deal, both years are relatively same in price and value.

Re: 96 vs 97 Blue\\White GTS

I bought a 97 rather than a 96 simply becuase of opportunity..Wanted a low mile car.got one with 995 miles in museum condition..Although the 97 did have a few upgrades from the 96 year..Of course it didnt hurt either that the previous owner, a doctor put in 15 grand in upgrades either..saved me the time and money to do so..
