97 GTS\'s - Barret Jackson Auction

97 Red GTS just sold on the Barret Jackson Auction for $47,000.
97 Blue & White Hennessy GTS just sold for $59,000

Commentators obviously don't know $%*& about Vipers...."reliability is a problem on these vipers if you modify the engines". Commentator wasn't even sure if the Blue with White stripes was a factory color!

It is obvious that several commentators in the auto world are ignorant on Vipers. That is largely in part because Dodge doesn't support the car the way they should. But rather than mumble about it among ourselves, what can WE do to promote the breed?

I think it is almost a good thing that the breed isn't promoted. It lends itself to the mystique of owning one. Sure, Ferrari's are unrealiable (common concensus) but I sure as heck wouldn't kick one out of my garage.

Alan was surprised that the gas cap cover was a "fake" and seemed actually shocked and dissapointed.

As a car guy, how was he not aware of this sooner?

Sigh.

Alan thinks he is THE authority on cars. Needs to get his

I was shocked over the lack of knowledge by the commentators regarding Vipers.
On the whole, many of the cars last night were not selling for nearly what I thought they would. A lot of good buys last night!

I think Alan D. knows a lot about cars that come from "accross the pond", but his knowledge is limited on American cars...and that's Ok, because the other guys kind of make up of it. I was amused when they started talking about current cars that could be, or become to have "collector car status", and one commentator responded: "You need limited production to obtain collector car status, and no current production cars will become collectors...not even the Viper".

I also watched the 3 hour auction on speedtv (channel 47 on comcast)last nite, just wish I was there. Just wanted to mention the auction is continued today, Fri 5-11pm (est) and tomorrow Sat 3-9pm (est). Auction estimates $31-32 million in cars will be sold. And appx 16% (8% buyer, 8% seller) goes to Barrett. Plus TV, plus food, plus vendor space, plus, plus. Nice gig.

I agree...those guys knows a lot...but not enough to make some of the comments they did.

There was a 200K street rod...red...that went for 40K...that was a steal.

Maybe we should invite them to our Viper lunch that's on-site at Barrett this weekend and educate 'em. We've got about 110 Viper owners so far that can each give them some instruction.

Mary --

That's an absolutely fabulous idea. What a great way to promote the breed. Make it a priority if you can.

What about there comment of the "Viper" not being a classic in the future!
It is a CLASSIC already.
If memory serves me correct - they thought there are over 5000 a year made LOL.
Enjoyed the show anyway and there comments were a laugh a minute...like the speaker grills taken off for transit on the truck LMAO.
