A bad day...

No point beating around the bush, I totalled my car yesterday I was driving fairly sedately too. Corner with apex on the brow of a hill on a freshly wet (and cold) road (adjacent to a farm so there was all sorts of crap on the surface) and it just went into a slide. There was nothing I could do as it slid about 40 feet and front end hit the wall of a bridge, demolishing it. I'm guessing the speed of impact was about 30mph. I'm lucky to be relatively unscathed I think; had I been driving as I normally do, I 'd have gone over the bridge. I don't think I'd be writing this post in that case... Very sobering experience... The car's not in a good state as you can imagine... Total bummer

That really *****! I hate seeing any Viper wrecked, especially when its a 96' RT/10. Glad you are ok. There's plenty of Vipers for sale, you'll get it replaced and be good as new again

Tough luck. Glad to see you you are ok. I notice the air bags didn't deploy inspite of what looks like solid frontal impact.

Maybe you can get an 08 now, eh?

Glad your ok which is the most important thing. But on the other hand the viper looks like it can be repaired, with no air bags to be replaced makes things much easier. Of coarse you would need to do a tear down to see the damage to frame and other parts. Maybe replace with a custom hood and front bumper.

There are only a handful (i.e. under 10 and one less now!) Gen I and IIs in Scotland so importing would be the likely option. That's where mine came from, I imported it when I returned to the UK from living in California. Trying to come to terms with losing my baby but I think I have to be glad that I'm still here to pontificate on the issue. It could have been much worse. It's mainly my pride that's been hurt (luckily)!

The roads are getting colder, along with the tires. There is a greater likelihood of condensation or even black ice. IT'S TIME TO SLOW DOWN. As much as your engine likes the cold, your tires do not. It's just an easy recipie for you to have one of these posts.

The thing is that I was driving considerably slower than I normally would and I still lost it. I would obviously emphasise the care required in driving these cars in anything less than perfect conditions. I never would take the car out in the wet normally and I only did it yesterday as I had to move my car from my folk's garage to the new house I've just bought about 90 miles away. Yesterday was the only day I was free to make the journey for some weeks. I had reservations about the journey which were, sadly, realised.

Dead car is soooo much better than dead car + dead driver. I'm glad you're ok.

Do you plan to re-Viperize your garage, or move on to something else? (I hope you get another!)

The car can be replaced (I'm on my second one now). Take the chance to upgrade to an '01 or '02 RT. I'm glad I did, but I still miss my first car sometimes.

I'm sorry to read and see your baby damaged, Its good that you came out of the accident OK. If your going to keep your w/b get a cap for the oil fill hole so nothing gets into the engine.

Not to bring up a sore subject, but who pays for the wall? insurance, you?
also, did the cops get involved?
Just wondering how it works over there with a single car accident
over here, the cops like to get in on the action and make your bad day worse by giving you tickets and court dates

Hopefully the insurance will cover the wall. Unfortunately the police were alerted to the car by a member of the public as it remained at the side of the road overnight. I therefore informed the local council that I'd hit the wall. But I'd be at pains to pay for a new wall as it was in serious disrepair before I hit it. I'm expecting a call from the police at some point, although I think they've only got 48 hours in which to charge me so they'd better be quick.
