Was this car sold?

As is fairly typical with many a Viper, he received a few offers that didn't pan out. Some folks at SRT are still researching whether it truly is the very last blue/white GTS ever made (what one potential buyer told us), but no confirmation one way or another at this point.

The owner wants to see this car go to a good home and soon. He has another project he is planning and needs the garage space. As such, it will be put on eBay Thursday night (11/11) - discounted over $10K. He is motivated to sell this beauty to the right person for the right price. Still the only blue/white GTS under full bumper-to-bumper warranty that I know of! ;)

I about bought that car in '98, and if I had the money it would be sold to me. But "been there, done that". It still would be fun. :2tu:

I figured this car would bring the money. I irritates me when people make silly comments about rolling on the floor laughing at the price. What does a 5000 mile car have in common with a 400 mile car?...Nothing. This car is not a “driver”, it is a collector.

You must realize that mileage makes a difference. When you are looking at collector cars, it costs more than a few dollars in depreciation for every mile you put on that car. This is a very low mileage Viper. How many Blue and Whites are left with under 500 miles?

If this car turns out to be the LAST Blue and White GTS, it is not worth $70k, it is worth MUCH more.

Our biggest enemy on Viper resale value are some of our club members. So many of the used Vipers are ROUGH. You get what you pay for.

Jerry,

I remember you always said that car was worth $100K even before any one even heard of the "possibly the last one" story.

$70K is getting close to your $100K guess.

Man you know your stuff!

Pretty slick, eh? So it looks like it was built on a Thursday at 2:00 PM and has the full factory warranty just as stated. Very cool. Sombody is going to end up with one incredibly nice Viper. Stay tuned!

So basically if the winner get's the extended warranty it will not run out until 2010, that's awesome!

My thoughts exactly. Imagine having a blue/white GTS with the extended MaxCare warranty still on it in the summer of 2010. The vast majority (99.9%) of the Gen II's will already be past that, as even the 2002's were generally in service by the middle of 2003. This '97 went in service in late October of 2003. Pretty slick!

Trivia Time..... what did that car roll out of the dealership for in '96 (if it had been sold in '96) after all fees... taxes (sales, luxury, gas guzzler), title, etc. were paid?

The base price was $66,045..... so at $70K..... someone is basically getting the car at a discount paying about full retail, but in 2004, instead of 1996 dollars!

Well, I'm crying....The deal is done. The check has been deposited and the title has been signed over. All that is left is for Gary A. to come pick it up. That will be a sad day!

WOW, very mixed emotions about doing this, I may regret it the rest of my life because the car is truly a time capsule, it even still smells new when you get inside. The pics from the auction don't even do it justice. :(

The ONLY upside, is that I got $70K for it, an actual fair market value.

I tend to agree with Jerry Dobson above, this board and it's users are our own worst enemies when we go to sell these AWESOME cars. We all say "It's not worth that!" But I'm willing to bet, almost everyone on here would pay double the price they paid for their Viper if they had a choice between paying double or not owning one at all.

NOW..... Come on Lamborghini Gallardo, or maybe a Vacation home on the lake!!! :2tu:

Why did you end the auction early? I always use a sniping service to place my bid within the last few seconds and I tend to bid high, so I end up winning nearly everytime I want something on ebay. It is possible that you may have had 2 bidders that had deep pockets that had to have that car, but now you will never know. I sold a friggin BMW manual for over $600 because 2 bidders HAD to have it and it was at $200 one day prior to the end of the auction. Anyway, you did receive a fair price but you possibly missed out on an unbelieveable price.

Actually, I had been in contact with all of the "serious" bidders on the car and we both felt that the gentleman who ended up with it was the right person for the car. We made a deal with him to end the auction early if there were no additional bids over the weekend. Like you, I use a sniping service when I make purchases. However in this case I honestly believe it ended up fairly. No "Why did you end it?" e-mails after the auction ended, so all is well!

Gerald,

Sorry if you lost out on a chance to bid. But as Chris said, there were 3 or 4 people that made it VERY CLEAR that they wanted the car and wanted it now.

Those who asked the most questions got the most attention. Chris e-mailed tons of additional pictures to 2 or 3 people that all kept asking "what will it take to end the auction today?" Which there were 2 or 3 US based people and 1 international prospect.

The gentleman that ended up with the car I felt was the best place to send the car. It will be kept in a shrine just as I did with it, and that makes me feel better about parting with it. One guy that wanted it was going to chop it up and mod and drive the daylights out of it. Which is cool, I've done the mod thing to 2 Vipers, but this car should be kept as is.

We gave the new owner a whole weekend to see if the bid would move up from $70K, which was the reserve, and he knew at the end of the weekend if he did not get outbid that he got the car.

BUT....we did state in this thread once or twice that the auction was ending after the weekend.

Damn I'm going to miss that car!

Congrats on the sale! Beautifull car!!!!! :2tu: I agree 100% with you. The same thing happens on the Supra board when someone lists a car for what seems like a high price to them. Heck I just traded my 1994 Supra TT:

Straight across for this 2003 911TT:

Now is time to sell the Porsche to buy another Supra AND a Viper GTS :2tu:

BadVenm,

I too wondered if the car would bring more money without an early end to the auction....with other bidders thinking about it.

Well I can say "I told you so" to all those laughing about the price. So many said the car was a $55k car. WRONG.

Clean GenII cars will bring a premium.

Its nice to see that a very low mile 96 is worth more than an equivalent mile 2003 SRT. Congratulations on your sale. Nice to see that this car will be kept in "museum condition" and not altered. To alter this rare car would be criminal.

Congrats! On the sale I think the price was very fair. Good to see that a low mile B/W went for a fair price. I tell you I love my GTS that color is the best.
