Viperholics,

A friend of mine just bought a used '97 GTS, where the motor was REPLACED under warantee in 2000. Would the dealer typically install a 2000 model or a 1997 model engine in this scenerio? I know there are differences in camshafts, pistons, etc... Also, is there a serial # or stamping on the block that would indicate this information???? Thanks in advance for your help!!!

If the engine was "replaced" under warranty, it was probably removed from the car, and sent back to Dodge. Dodge then sends them on to Arrow Racing in Detroit to have them rebuilt. That is what is going to happen to our '94 engine yet this week or early next week. I also understand that it comes back from Arrow Racing a bit more stout than what the new stock motor did. This, I understand, is what happens if the engine can be rebuilt. The process takes about 3 months from start to finish. If it cannot be rebuilt, then I don't know what happens from there, except that you get a factory replacement engine. Don't know about stampings on the engine, but hopefully the documentation is there to provide proof that it was a factory replacment.

Roland,

Thanks for the info., but this motor was not rebuilt. It was a new motor directly from Chrysler with a 1 year/12,000 mile warantee.
