Does anyone have this problem? I only have had my car for about three months and it is already wearing on the shifter and steering wheel. This is pretty weird in my opinion since it only have 5,500 Miles. Anyone have this problem?

Thanks in advance :D

It sounds like you are hanging on for dear life or something. Stop clutching, loosen up, and enjoy the car... just kidding with you.

I've got almost 20k on a 2000 and the leather's in great shape.

Are you using Zaino leather treatment? Sweat from your hands getting leather damp and drying will cause wear and cracking.

That shouldn't be normal. 5500 miles? The car isn't even completely broken in!
If you still have the factory warranty, I'd be paying my local dealer a visit.

I don't know why this is happening. Is this normal or just very common with the Cognac Interior option? To tell you the truth the shift knob looks really bad because it looks like pieces of the leather are missing. I mean after 5,500 miles this is ridiculous. Would this even be covered under warranty? I have found out that quite a few things aren't as I expected they were. The oil changes is a big one that shocked me.

I have 8k on my Sapphire & Cognac 2001 RT, and the leather still looks new - it sounds like an isolated problem.

I'd recommend an MGW shift knob to replace your worn one, it's a great accessory and adds to the interior, especially the 'First Strike' knob.

Shoot me an email if you have not already contracted to have your interior redone. [email protected] Hard to see in the tan seats above but the stitching is red.
