Drain the gear oil and replace w/ GM Syncromesh fluids (tend to work a bit better than redline's MT-90).

Let it warm up and see if it helps any.

You could have worn or chewed the syncro, very real posibility (although I haven't heard of this on vipers much).

But... you can get a good trans for ~900$ these days, use yours as a core. Or find a good tranny shop and get them to do the syncro replacement.

Don't the early cars take ATF? (My 96 GTS takes ATF and my 00 GTS takes gear lube.)

If you put gear oil in, even synthetic, doesn't it attack the friction lining of the synchros?

Also, a little bit of griding was common place in muscle car transmission and they lasted "forever."

You should be able to minimize the griding if you shift with force rather than displacement input into the shifter.

When you shift, use you fingertips and apply a constant force to the shifter. It will come out of gear and stop when it contacts the synchro. As you keep the constant force applied, the synchro will have time to do it's job and finally the shifter will go into the next gear.

All you have to do is find what force gets the job done.

That was you can "baby it" when you just putting around.

Also be sure that you don't have too much free play in your clutch which would indicate a hydraulic problem that would be associated with the clutch not fully disengaging.

FYI, a synchro that grinds a bit, powershifts so much easier (!)

You better have slicks tho...
