Advice on what needs to be done to 2001 GTS

Tomorrow, I will try to close the deal on a cream puff.

For numerous reasons, I probably won't have it until next year.

Are there things that are "must-do's"?

Should the water pump be replaced right away?
What other things should I prepare?

I know, I know, it's a cream puff. I will take care of that later.

Drive it around.

I have had no problem with my water pump. I have put about 1,300 miles a month on mine and no problems to this day (knock on wood)

I would do an exhaust. A corsa. The car from the factory sounds like, well lets just say it sounds really bad.

Have fun. Too bad you have to wait a year
