Am I Going to Have to Pull the Head??

I'm installing the Roe supercharger. Everything going great.....up until I dropped a small nut down the number 4 injector hole of the new intake manifold that came with the SC kit And I just told myself to cover up all the holes before I do something stupid like that! I haven't tried the magnet on a snake yet. The nut is steel. I have tried to fish it out with one of those flexible grabber tools. Its safed me many a time before but it failed me this time. Correct me if I'm wrong but the nut could be in two places. Either its' hung up on top of the intake valve or if it was open, it fell on down into the cylinder. Either way if the magnet doesn't work, head comes off?? Any other suggestions? I'm so mad at myself, I could ^&%$#

Pull the valve cover and see if the valve is open, will be pretty darn obvious based on rocker position.

Chances are it wasn't open far enough for the nut to fall through. A small mirror and a flashlight should let you look around in there and see if you can see it. If you can, then bend up the exten-o-magnet and fish it out. If not then yup the head has to come off.


Yup it *****, but thats why you keep all the nuts/bolts in a magnetic pan and cover and open engine holes.

unlikely but if it does get past the valve , you can try and and get it back through the plug hole with a magnet or suction. good luck

I can imagine the sinking feeling when you realized what just friggin happened!!!!

yep...Things were going so well. I covered the injector holes on the driver's side for just that reason but I was doing so well, I didn't do it when I got to the passenger side. Wouldn't you know it! Anyway, I'm going to swing by Autozone and pickk up one of those flex magnets and also try to find a small doughnut magnet I can tie a string to to drop down in the hole. Is the intake port in the head pretty much a straight shot down to the intake valve or is there nooks and crannys on the way down that the nut could have hung up on?

The next step if this doesn't work is to pull the blower and intake back off to expose the larger intake port on the head. Maybe this will give me more wiggle room.

This is where a $100 magnet with a flexible arm is usefull ... Something similar also happend to me, I was able to pull out the bolt.

I did exactly the same thing a few months ago. After pulling the intake off I was able to grab it using a small mirror and a flexible grabber tool.

Never give up!!!! Lost a pushrod down the valley area one day,,, took a little while but finally fished it out with a magnet. Located a nut from the adjustable rockers down the valley area one day too. Patience my friend, patience.

Well after fishing around down in the injector hole and the spark plug hole with one of those magnet grabbers, I finally found and retrieved the nut out of the cylinder. Intake valve must have been open. I had just about resigned to the notion that I was going to have to pull everything back off, SC, intake manifold, etc. and possibly even perform an emergency cylinder headectomy. Needless to say, all open orifices are now plugged with Bounty wipes!
