I think you may need to adjust the rear latches on the hardtop. Basically, part of the problem is the rear latches need to be adjusted so the top doesn't make small movements up and down. The rear latches need to be adjusted to point where they are just snaping over the pin.

Hope that helps, or someone can provide better details.

Re: Annoying Noise\'s From The Hardtop

Sandy,
I too had a problem with my hardtop. So much that I thought was ready for a whole new top!! It would rattle right behind my head!!!

I finally took it in to my Vipertech who actually removed both rear clips from the hardtop. He adjusted them and reinstalled them so now the top is very, very secure with no rattle at all.

I hope yours is still under warranty. Take it in if it is and let the Vipertech fix it or order you a new top.

good luck
best wishes

No rear latches in "Gen 1" hardtop. Actually bolted to sports bar. Gen 2 RT/10's have a much easier setup as the sports bar pad does not have to be removed... works just like the soft top.

So..........is it possible to modify the Gen 1 hardtop, to install like the Gen 2 hardtop? Thanks.

On my 1998 RT/10, the knocking was coming from the front. It seems that the padding would compress and the pins would become too long and would bang in and out. As there is no way to adjust their lenght, I inserted a piece of clear plastic hose to eliminate the slack.

Let me know you fix yours. I haven't looked at my hardtop (2001)yet, but it rattles much more than my '94s did.

For the squeaks, use a little silicone divers mask grease, you can get it at any Scuba diving shop. Just wipe it on the foam gaskets every once in a while, and squeaks will disappear. This works great on "Daily Driver" car door gaskets as well. Comments above are on the mark for the rattles.

It you plan on painting your car in the near future, do not do this as silicone will likely "migrate" and make it tough for any point shop to prevent "fisheyes" in the paintjob.
