So i was coming home from a quick drive tonight and just as I was about to put the car on the lift I noticed a spot of something on the lift rails. Upon a closer look there was more then one spot on the rail. It looked dirty (probably from the rails) and was VERY greasy. Any ideas as to what it could be? CV boot? Shock going bad? I'm listening. :) Almost forgot....2001 rt/10

Check your brake line to the Drivers side wheel, looking on the inside of the wheel is there any signs of a leak?

Do you have a Power steering vent tube? If so is it vented into the inner drivers side wheel arch? Check that the cap is tight ;)

The drain tap on the radiator is also on the Drivers side, is that dry?

Clutch master cylinder pipe and connections are also in that area, any signs of a drip or leak from the braided stainless line, is the clutch reservoir cap on tight?

Do you know if you have a dye in the AC compressor there are 2 plastic sleeves that cover the crimped rubber pipes which connect to the AC Compressor, if any of O rings in the compressor fail its possible for the fluid to run down the inside of the plastic sleeves and drip at the lowest point?

Keep us posted :)

Oh one other thing, when was the last time you washed the car? Is it possable you put the car away while wet? Some water may have dripped onto the chassis rails from the Hood rainwater ducts

If you've just greased the ball joints or if a lump of excess was hanging off ready to drop, it could have done so in the hotter weather. Check the grease boots on the front suspension - that's where the really think, viscous greasy stuff hangs out.

All very good suggestions! I don't have a vent tube and no dye in my A/C system. I plan to put the lift up here soon and give a look see under the car.

I havent done the joints but i'm wondering if this is the case. The stuff I felt on the lift rails definitely felt like a grease. As mentioned above...car is going up on the lift here soon. :)

Thanks again! Keep the ideas coming!!!

UPDATE...

Went out and looked under the car. Didn't see anything that jumped right out at me. found two zergs on the bottom of the front lower control arms. I cleaned them a bit before taking pics  but they were pretty greasy. The grease on the lift was almost dried but when you ran your finger through it you could tell it was very slick while the grease on the zergs looked almost fresh.
