Archer starts \'02 with 2 wins in NASA races

BOBBY ARCHER WINS NASA RACES AT MOTORSPORT RANCH

In preparation for the upcoming SCCA Double National event (2/15/02 - 2/17/02) at Texas World Speedway (TWS) known as the “Polar Prix”, Bobby Archer entered his T1 class Viper in two NASA races held at the Motorsport Ranch in Ft. Worth on 2/3/02. Archer wanted to scrub in tires and make sure his black No. 32 ViperSpeed T1 Viper, which is sponsored by SuperClubs Resorts and The Lodge (in Dallas), was in good shape for the Polar Prix next weekend. As this event was really just a test-and-tune session for Archer, he brought along his ace pit crew, two-year old son Dylan and four-year old daughter Jessica, to help him crew the car…

For the NASA races, Archer’s T1 Viper was placed in an unlimited class of 15 cars which included several other T1 cars and some purpose-built race cars including one Can-Am car. Since the Motorsport Ranch is sort of a home track for Bobby, it came as no surprise that he qualified on the pole for the first race. What was a bit of a surprise though was that Archer not only won the race but lapped the entire field in less than 14 laps, which was the duration of the race. The second race was run a short time after the finish of the first race - just long enough to fill up the gas tank, check tire pressures, etc. Archer again dominated the field, lapping all but 3 of the 15 cars before the checkered flag flew. The two victories in the NASA races represent win numbers 14 and 15 for his black T1 Viper, dating back to the beginning of 2001.

Archer and teammate Dr. Deborah Loth are looking forward to the start of their 2002 SCCA season in the T1 class next weekend at the Polar Prix. Both drivers know the TWS track well and their ViperSpeed T1 Vipers usually perform well there. With eleven T1 cars entered, including several drivers (such as Corvette pilots Scotty White, Bob Schader, and Kevin Mixon) that competed in the T1 race at the SCCA Run-Off’s last fall, the two SCCA National T1 races (to be held on Saturday and Sunday) should be very competitive and entertaining to watch. More information on Archer and Loth can be found at www.bobbyarchermotorsports.com and www.viperspeed.com.
