ElDiablo,

It has nothing to do with you personaly, just has to do with the several hand fulls of 2000+ Vipers I have seen tested.

My first dyno that was done at 1500 miles at the same location as Moundir did his. Corsa + ST+ K&N

Dyno 2 with Vec set to 00 and no cats. See how rich the car run. I'm sure that there is more HP waiting.

Russ,
Do you want to see a 00, 01, or 02 dyno at over 430 to the real wheels? You are personally invited to join us this Friday....

PLACE: McGee's Auto Service

ADDRESS: 5717 SW Jean Rd. in Lake Oswego, OR

DATE & TIME: Saturday April 12th at 9:00am (we will go until everyone has had a chance to dyno)

ATTENDANCE: Everyone. (any and all vehicle types are welcome)

I will not count on you being able to make it on such short notice, so I will post a pic of the dynojet reading next week. I can assure you that there will be more than just one car over the 430 mark.

Please remember that starting in 98 all vipers come from the factory with tubular headers.

Only the pre 98's have cast manifolds.

Cody

Cody,

Lets put it this way, I will personaly pay for your dyno and lunch if you bring your 2000+ or any other to R&D Dyno service. Not to mention that I would love to make a side bet on the outcome.

Without a doubt there are plenty of dynos out there that will show stock vipers making 430hp. However the point of dyno testing your car is for accurate results not ones to impress internet goers.

PS. You may want to check out the new issue of Turbo Magazine, they have an interesting article of Dyno testing. Lets put it this way 287hp car, 6 different dyno tests at different facilities = hp numbers ranging from 229hp to 265 hp. Enough said.

Couple comments:

El Diablo, you mention you have stock 3.07s and Mike has 3.55s. 3.55s will dyno lower not higher in Torque or HP. You'll feel more seat of the pants punch but at least everyone I've talked to claims lower numbers after a switch to higher gears. This has been proven on worse ET's on a drag strip too.

Mike, you asked about Mustang Dyno's. I went through the frustration of trying to compare apples (Mustang dyno) to oranges (Dynojet). My Mustang numbers were sometimes as much as 30% lower. I had a Nitrous run on a Mustang MD-250 that registered 345 RWHP but was nearly 540 RWHP equivalent on a dynojet.

I also have gone to the same dyno (Mustang, which claims to be a more consistent and real world dyno) and had variations of 40 RWHP in the same day. Separated by a few hours but there are too many variables. Heat, pumping air with a fan, hood up, etc. all have big affects on the numbers. At the end of the day, have a drag race side by side and compare MPH. Calculate back from that and you'll have a better idea of how close you are.

Just my two cents.

Real world is what matters and I have time slips to back it up. And I'll remind you that I'm a very poor drag racer at best. My car runs 12 flat all day long with me driving, and high 11's with a good driver.

There also is an 01 GTS in our club (Rob Logsdon, the VCA Oregon president) that has the exact same mods as I do and he has run a 11.6 with his car. I wouldn't believe unless I saw it, but he did it lined up against me. He posts 11.8 to 11.9 at will, and I can assure you that his car is motor stock with the same mods as myself. And yes, he did get kicked out of the drags for not having a roll cage.

If I produce a dyno slip, you will say it's BS. If I produce a drag time slip, you will say it could have been a different car. If I produce a video, you will tell me my car isn't stock. There is no changing your mind, and that is truly sad. So continue to believe whatever you want. Good day to you.

Wow so much drama over dyno #s lmao. I guess mine are normal on the low side. The only way to see if my car is really weak is to run some Vipers with similar mods ;) Pref from a roll, cause launching the car with 3.55s on street tires sucked  Another thing about gears is that they generally lower et at cost of mph, so the fact that I was consistently about 1mph faster than ElDiablo at the track is a good thing :D

I'll be there with Cody this weekend to represent the low-end of the dyno wars and make everyone else feel good about their #s.

When I dyno'd my car dead stock at 1000 miles, I got 396HP corrected which is low but not unreasonable, but only 414TQ which does seem unreasonable. I'll be interested to see how it compares against other Vipers at the same dyno on the same day and hope that the previous testing was somehow flawed :D
