I was just informed by my Viper tech that my '94 shows the telltale signs of leaking head gaskets: dried greenish stains on both sides of the block. He called Star and was told that an Arrow rebuild was authorized. While I have an extended warranty, my gut feeling is that I'd rather have my local dealership replace the gaskets with the newer type. However, if I were to elect to go that route, my warranty would not cover the costs.(????)

I have concerns about R&R'ing a motor, the level of satisfaction experienced by others who've had this procedure, the 4-6 weeks without my car, exactly what will be done, and how to get my car back to my garage without a motor. Does the motor really run stronger after a rebuild? Is the warranty a year?

I'd appreciate any suggestions and/or advice by others who've been there/done that. I know there are many of you who've been in my position.

Thanks.....

Is the aluminum flywheel really worthwhile and cost effective?

Have your motor sent to Arrow, it's worth the wait. Arrow will replace everything from the oil pan up if need be. ( I know cause I recieved an entire new motor built to 96 specs ).

Don- I wonder if you could postpone the rebuilt until say November. For now just retorke the head bolts and enjoy the nice weather. I would put a call in to "The Wizard", see what he says. He has a 94 too.

If you have you have a COMPETENT Viper tech & a dealership that you can TRUST, don't think twice about the offer to send in your motor. If you are not sure about the local folks who could do the work, take your car to one of the big Viper dealers who have already done the same for other owners. Ask them for a list of references that you can interview about the quality of their work. It is a great opportunity to get an almost totally new motor. Chrysler has learned alot about the consturction details of your entire motor since it was first built. Don't pass up the chance!
Don't expect to see any performance improvement. Mine is about the same.
You must replace the clutch/pressure plate/throwout brg., hoses & put in the newer 100k mile Chrysler anti-freeze.
Good luck!

I personally don't have first-hand experience with an Arrow rebuild, but from everything I've heard from everybody I have spoken with who has done this, it's worth every bit of time and effort. Arrow does a great job and many times the motors come back even stronger. At a recent Dyno Day where many members had their cars run on the dyno, one after another, the GEN.1 cars with Arrow rebuilds were shockingly powerful. I was there and saw it myself. I don't know what exactly Arrow does, but it seems like a first-class blueprint job & if somebody were paying for it, I'd do it in a heartbeat! pete the ex-glass guy & hot rodder

Doing without the car for a while is well worth what you're going to get out of the deal.

Go for the Arrow rebuild!
The time will fly by and you'll be better off in the long run.

Besides, it will probably take less time right now because most people try to wait till winter. (Arrow is supposed to have a faster turn-around time in the summer).

It took 6 weeks for my 94 to get rebuilt by Arrow last Dec./Jan.

I would go for it! Brand new fresh motor for free vs. 9 yr old motor that you have to pay to fix. Easy choice, you can live without the car for a few weeks. my 2 cents

Been there, done that. In the end, no big deal. Have a COMPETENT viper tech do the work and you will not even be able to tell that the motor was R and R'd. Now some say the motor will be stronger. I really can't tell the difference but I do know my rebuilt dyno'd at Arrow at 426 HP so who knows.
