Learn the mantra: "Smooth inputs, gentle inputs". The Viper is one of the most rewarding cars to drive, but you must learn the mantra.

The "difficulty factor" is more of a "unfamiliarality with gobs of torque factor". Most of the car mag testers have very few opportunities to drive a track with a 500 lb/ft of torque (at almost any RPM) beast.

Seriously, once you familiarize yourself with the unbelievable power of our Vipers (and wipe the ear to ear grin off your face), as was stated above, it is a very rewarding car, and one that will never get boring, or embarass you against any competition.

I found my 2000 AND my 2001 absolutely neutral at Pocono, no oversteer (unless you want it)... just predictable performance.

Vipers are truly Race Cars that happen to be street legal... there are very few other production cars ever produced that can live up to that statement.

Ditto what Joe said. Also, *almost* everything I read in car mags about driving a Viper are not even close to my own experience. I own a GenI, GenII, and had the privilege of driving a GenIII. All are a blast, you just have to know what your doing. Slowly getting familiar with the car is very important!!! Mashing on the go pedal your first time out is a HUGE mistake. Take one out for a spin (not literally) and see what YOU think.

These writers simply are showing their lack of driving skill. I invite you to come for a ride at the track - you will be a believer!!! (and thats just after the warm up lap).
This car comes off a corner darn quick - translated, that means it handles rolling onto the throttle very well and rear does not break loose, rather it digs in and those michelins bite, bite , bite.

If you are worried about rear end breaking loose, buy a front wheel drive anything or a four ****** - Viper is a V10 and will behave about the same as any hight torque powered car.

Remember, these blokes write what they write to sell advertising space - negative cr...p sells magazines

Finally - plenty of big name drivers have tested the Viper, Mario Andretti among them - never heard those guys talk about the rear end braking loose with "no warning" - who do you want to believe !!!

As stated earlier Power/Torque, massive, applied without thinking=surprise.

Take a few Skip Barber driving schools(discounted to VCA members), attend Viper Days and learn how to tame the snake. Lower performance cars are easier to drive but not as much fun.

Most of the cars on the road now have some form of traction control to keep them from spinning. The Viper doesn't therefore its more fun to drive.

I've never had a problem, but I used to drive a Dirt track car so I'm a little used to a car that can spin.
