Just curious, but has anyone ever heard of someone putting an automatic in a viper?? Can it be done? I wont be racing this car, however I will use it as my every day driver, hence the reason for an automatic vs the stick.

HAHA, lol, hope not!!! I'm sure with enough money you could put an auto tranny in, but it's not worth it, I'm sure!!!

Trick is to find one that would take that amount of torque. I know that some of the Viper tuners do it but I've never have seen a completed one. If you are serious about it, talk to them and get at least a 12 month warranty on it.

It has been done using Dodge components. Stevens Creek Dodge, San Jose, CA did the installation several years ago. I think they used the same tranny as in the V10 truck.

I love automatics for everyday driving but it seems just wrong to put an auto tranny in a Viper.

Yes, it can and has been done. A NJ Viper owner with a disabilty is featured in the car in one of the VCA magazines. I think His name is Gary Dan. Out team mate Chris Barone and owner of Chris"s Collision here in NJ did the job. And he was drag racing at Englishtown running 12 sec 1/4 mile times in the car.

Gary's car is running great! and is definitely a 12 second car! He's now converting the car to manual valve bodies, so he'll have complete control of the shifting. He can give you the details, and Chris Barone can make it happen. Gary's e-mail is [email protected]

One of our local members has an automatic transmission in his RT/10 due to disabilities. It was originally done in Houston and was apparently a disaster. I know there has been litigation involved. He then turned it over to (who else?) Woodhouse Dodge and they were able to make it a functional automatic Viper. I think Rick Maxwell had a couple tricks he did to make it Viper-worthy. They didn't feel a straight swap was the best solution. I know it took them a while to get it fixed up, but I think he has been pleased with the results. He drove that beauty down to Overland Park from St. Joseph (about 170 miles round trip) and it was great. Some pretty incredible stereo mods to boot!
