B&B exhaust and new Gears ...

Had the BB header-back installed yesterday, along with 3.45 gears. Haven't had a chance really jump on it (break-in) so cannot yet report on the 3.45s.

The BB was supposed to be a 'bolt-on' ... I guess that means nothing fits and requires custom fab work these days ... It's on now... looks great (but the tips are nothing special), sounds awesome (deep) ... but got the 'Check Engine' light on the way home (stock headers) ... may need O2 sims on the back sensors (wonder where to get these) or may try to just clear the code, and see if the light stays off (probably would need some kind of programmer for that)

and here's a weird question: any reason why getting the shifter into to reverse should be hard as hell now? (it was never a problem before)

DANGER WILL ROBINSON! DANGER! DANGER!

Your reverse lock-out mechanism is not working. Be very careful until you get this fixed. Bad things could happen if you shifted into reverse by mistake while you were travelling down the road.

This happened to me too after my header install. Turns out it was a blown fuse.

Could be loose pressure plate bolts backing out. It happened to me twice and the first symptom both times was increasing difficulty getting into reverse. Soon, the other gears became difficult to get into as well.

Kai, I sent you a PM.

Re: B&B exhaust and new Gears ...

Here's what was wrong:

The O2 wiring got burned up/melted by the new B&B exhaust. The short caused the fuse to blow, thus "Check Engine" light. Turns out the Shift solenoyd is on the same fuse, so thus, hard shifting ... but ...

the fuse keeps blowing ... so back under the car ... 3 feet of wiring (heavier guage) was used to allow for rear O2 sensors being further back ... now checking to see if the added wiring is creating more resistance to blow the fuse ...

Did you get the header-back with or without the cats? As a multiple of the stock exhaust volume....how loud is your new exhaust? 2X? 3X? 1.5X? Any pictures of the install?

Thanks

Ted

Header-back with the cats ... not much louder at all (idle) ... a little deeper and a maybe 2x at full-throttle

Not too loud? Now I am interested. Did you ever solve the blown fuse issue? If you would, just what fabricating was required for this bolt-on system? We would all like pictures if available.

Thanks again,

Ted

Re: B&B exhaust and new Gears ...

No pics yet ... the system didn't come with O2 bungs after the cats (only before the cats) ... they had to add the bungs, but the extra wiring is causing melting problems inside the side sills. Also, the pipes were not long enough to reach the stock headers, so they had to add a flex pipe and also had to weld on the stock flanges ... it was not 'bolt-on' at all.

Man, I would expect perfection at those prices. Thanks for sharing your experience, I think I'll choose another option. I did get suspicious when my simple email inquiries went unanswered, all makes sense now.

I think B&B makes those to fit the B&B headers, which is a pretty dumb thing to do if you ask me!
