I find the B&M from $279 - $395 is there any difference? I doubt it but I thought I would ask.

Is there a better shifter than this?
Thanks

Check Ebay.. you may find them cheaper on there. I went with a MGW gripper shifter and that has shortened and cleaned up my throws so much now that i never mis-shift anymore. I am still debating if i want to install the ripper shifter after the improvement that the shift knob made.

I paid 225.00 on Ebay for mine. I also have the MGW shift knob. The shifts are really close and very crisp. Not very hard to install either. Drop me a line if you need any verbal help when installing. Good Luck

Wannaviper,

I sent you a PM, but not sure if you received it. I have a B&M, but I never installed it on my Viper. If you haven't purchased one, then I'll sell you mine if you're interested...

Viper Man 40:

How did your car shift before installing the B & M? I believe the shifter is a weak link, but in all the searches I've done, I don't get a very good before/after comparison.

Red Mist:

If you dont sell to wannaviper - send me an email.

A huge improvement can be made with Rich Detert's short throw adapter.

I took the baseball shifter knob out of my 2000, removed the factory isolater, and then used an earlier Viper all leather knob with the Detert piece.

I'm still searching for my 1st Viper, but I can pass this on to you. When I had the Vettes, I went with the Kirban Qwik Shifter instead of the B&M Ripper (on a C5). Most of my fellow Vette owners liked the shifting characteristics much better than the B&M. B&M was much stiffer and a little noisey. Of course, I don't know if Kirban makes one for the Viper, but I suspect they do. Maybe someone else on here will comment on that. Good luck in your search.

i had a b&m in mine and the gears were a lot tighter, but wasnt to impressed with the shifter itself. Mopar performance has just released a hurst shifter for the viper, you might want to check it out. You can see a pic at Mopartsracing.com.

wannaviper...there is a guy, Rich Detert who posts (or used to post) here and sold a great part.

It was basically a short piece of threaded rod (A different thread size on each end)in a few different lengths, that replaced your factory isolater. The isolater is a rubber filled shaft that goes between the knob and actual shifter.

By replacing the isolater with his piece, you can lower the shifter down closer to the top of the console, thus shortening the shift throw...and....makes a much firmer shift.

It made a workd of difference in my car and was priced right.

Most of the long time owners have been through this shifter thing and find that the after market B&M and the SVS shifters work ok on the street, but on the track they were very easily mis-shifted with the dreaded third back to second when you wanted third to fourth. This mistake can blow the engine with the over-rev that it causes. The answer we found for the track is the modified stock shifter that K&P (303-697-5821) makes that adds more spring rate to the left gate. When the shifter is in neutral pulling the shifter to the left takes more force than moving the shifter to the right. This mod. in addition to the replacing the isolator with a solid stud adapter makes for a better track set-up, in my opinion. SVSi sells the solid shifter stud replacement device that has the 1/2-20 thread on one end and metric thread on the other end. There are also other sources for the stud, which someone will post. I have a picture of the shifter and the stud. E-mail me for them. Not sure how to post them here.
