Ive noticed since i installed the randomtech hoflo cats (along with the corsa catback system) i have quite a bit of "backfire" when i let off the accelerator quickly and coast. is this expected? The combo sounds great, deep rumble, throaty accelration but this backfire bothers me is this normal?

This is normal.I actually love that sound and make the car do it everywhere. You can defeat this noise by depressing the clutch while braking instead of riding the rpm's down.I believe it should only make those sounds around 1700 rpm's.

You may want to check to see if you have an exhaust leak. Are you using the strap type clamps? If so, they do leak a little. I have to put a homemade type gasket to seal it up.

Mine does the same thing (Roe Racing high-flow cats). Everything's welded, no band clamps. As TTBADBOY said, I only find this happens when the clutch is engaged and I'm slowing down. Clutch in = no backfire. I like it, but I always get a mental picture of Uncle Buck......

My Roe Racing HF Cats are welded in, and do the exact same thing...I have gotten pretty good at "making" this happen, as I typically downshift to stop, only braking for a complete stop...LOVE IT!

I've got Borla headers, hi-flo cats, and Borla race mufflers and my car cackles more than a witch on Halloween! I love it, especially when you come up on another sports car and you downshift just to get the loud exhaust note and alot of backfire like the car is breathing fire!

On my 94 I've got Balenger 3" mufflers behind stock cats and headers. Backing off and letting the engine slow the car causes a great rumble that any car guy would like. The car is loud enough to set off car alarms, even a Viper's alarm at a Maryland Viper club crab feast. I wouldn't call it a backfire. To me, a backfire is like a gunshot. I don't think I'd want that.
