Has anyone installed a backup camera in a Gen 3 Viper. I'm not sure how we backed up back in the day, lol.
What head unit is that?I kinda did the same thing except I wanted access to the camera anytime so I took all the wiring up to the console. I was changing out all the speakers so everything was out of the interior, which made things much easier to route. I didn't wanna make holes in the bumper or trunk so I used industrial velcro for mounting the camera.
Any photos and list of equipment you used?Wiring was actually quite easy. I can send some pics tomorrow or later this week l. Basically I tapped into reverse light (I believe it was white/green wire or driver taillight). I then ran that up along with the factory wiring and I took the ground off the connector on the trunk for the latch. Then ran the cabling up to the head unit (I just ran it down behind the plastic in the rear then up through the center console and to the head unit.
List of equipment..Any photos and list of equipment you used?
What year is your Viper?List of equipment..
- head unit: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/100...der_detail.order_detail_item.3.9033f19cgZcUSu
I picked the cheapest unit that had wireless car play. Screen is small (especially in comparison to my 2023 Silverado) but still very usable.
- ebay drill in type camera (included wiring).. Have a look on Amazon and ebay and find one you like the best. I ordered a couple of these when I did my 911 turbo backup camera install so had an extra from that
- I used 18 gauge wire to wire from the reverse light to backup camera
- a few t-taps and butt connectors (I actually soldered a few of them as well).
Mine is an 04.. I believe they have the same dash so that one I linked would work for youWhat year is your Viper?
I'd like to find a head unit like that for my 2006, Gen 3
Any pics of it installed in your car?Mine is an 04.. I believe they have the same dash so that one I linked would work for you
Edit: I did have to cut a small amount of the plastic behind the stock head unit to have it fit
I can snap some pics tonight for youAny pics of it installed in your car?
