Belanger Headers, Corsa, and Plug Wires

Hey everyone! I know this is a long time coming but wanted to give an update to the Belanger header and Corsa install I started in late December or early January. I actually finished the install early February but haven't had time to post pics or anything. I also changed out the spark plugs for Gen III plugs and changed the plug wires as the ones previously on the car had date codes suggesting they were original and 20+ years old. Also, one of the plug wires (bottom on in the pic) had a strange orange goo around the boot so they were definitely needing a refresh.

Header install went well although it was a ***** getting the stock exhaust manifold heat shield off. Plus the previous owner installed a cruise control module which made things more of a pain in the ass. I actually want to remove that but I'll save that for another time. Once headers were on it was time to install the Corsa. Fitting the Corsa turned out to be a test of my patience as the piping was not fitting properly on the Belanger cats even though I ordered proper sizing for both to ensure a good fit. This lead me needing to cut small 4" pieces of straight exhaust pipe that Belanger sent to allow the Corsa to fit on. On top of that the rear exhaust tail pipe was not lining up with the stock hanger. So I had to cut the hanger rode off of the Borla the previous owner had on there and retro fit it to the Corsa. You'll see in the pics. After all that everything lined up well and I torqued all bolts to spec. And it runs amazing and I haven't had any issues with leaks or codes pop up. Plus getting rid of the Borla and putting on the Corsa removed all cabin drone, which is a huge plus in my book.

This weekend I changed out the spark plugs and plug wires for Gen III plugs and Scott plug wires in red. This was actually very easy to do and only took a couple hours. The car now starts even better and I can't wait to get it out on the street to see how it runs now. I read that plug wires should not be bundled together so I fashioned separators using zip ties and made sure nothing is close to the headers.

I just put these Taylor looms on my car with Scott wires. The bolts supplied were all about 5/16" too long so I trimmed and chamfered them. I had to double-nut and remove several of the OE studs but they worked out pretty nice IMO. You can order these in multiple colors, 8 or 10.4mm wire diameter. These are the vertical style #42503. Under $40.

I'll definitely check those out cause I'm not too keen on the zip tie thing I did. Looks decent but what you showed me looks a lot better and probably better heat protection too. Also, any idea of what that orange goo is on one of the stock plug wires I replaced? Also again, in your opinion does it look like the old spark plugs have ever been changed? They look rough!

I'd bet money the orange stuff is probably high-temp silicone sealer. The plugs just might be OE, but they don't look too bad. A little lean maybe.

I'm about to order a Corsa cat-back for May install but I keep hearing about issues with fitment. Is there anything I can do to make sure Corsa sends me the right fit?

StumpDDS, nice install!!

if you have not already done it, you might want to consider putting heat shields on underhood wires, hoses ( even rubber boots on ball joints)...especially O2 sensor wiring and clutch hydraulic line to name a couple.

It's interesting just how many calls I get per year saying that owner started Viper, ran back inside "for just a couple of minutes", only to come out and find engine off and upon attempting to restart, it turns over but does not ever start..."must be the alarm, right?". No, it's the fried O2 sensor wires on car with headers and PCM preventing restart via ASD system.

Just a thought...especially if you plan track use.

Thanks for the tip! I’ll definitely look into those as well as other forms of heat shielding. Question for you that’s unrelated: what’s that air intake box you have on there? Is it custom? Looks awesome!
