I'm going to have my exhaust off to install a 2.5" Corsa cat-back setup (I know it's the "old" non-3" version), and I won't be installing headers yet. But I keep reading comment of people who have installed high flow cats and I was wondering how difficult that would be to install, and if it's worth it for a '00 R/T10?

I understand than the high flow cats are better for running a bit cooler to save the paint, and you get a small gain in HP, but are they accessable to replace? Is it better to go with the round ones, or the oval cats ($30 more ea.)

Is the power gain worth the $200-$250+ labor.
How much HP gain would you get (if any) with a 2.5" Corsa and high flow cats?

Any tips on installation? Best price?

I recently picked up the Random Technology cats from JonB at Partsrack. These sound great, but I haven't had them on the dyno yet. Car _might_ be 1db louder now... but I can't tell if it is.

Definitely made the exhaust tone a little deeper, though.

I'd recommend these, but I don't know anything about any others.

Take care!

Dean, you might pick up a few hp from the 2.5" cat-back, but it's mainly for sound. (We usually see a more significant increase with the Corsa 3" cat-back. We actually saw a 21hp jump on a '96 RT/10!)
As for cats, we sell 2.5" or 3" high-flow cats that _each_ support a 360 cubic inch motor, so they flow more than enough for one 488" motor!

You'll likely see a 5-8rwhp gain. Price is $299 for the pair. We install as well!
I have them in stock. Why not stop by? You're right in our neck of the woods!
By the way, we've moved from Suite #105 to #101. Check our website (www.apexmotorsports.com) for directions.

Bill,

I got the 2.5" Corsa because I have the Corsa exhaust on my Vette and really like the sound, and I got a good price from JonB. I knew that the HP gain will be minimal, but the 3" Corsas were much more money and "creampuff" Vipers weren't showing the same gains as the earlier models did with the 3" Corsa.

I was thinking about the high-flow catbacks somewhat for the power gain, but more because they were supposed to run cooler.

I actually visited your shop last weekend because you are so close and I was curious to see your place. There was a Silver ACR outside that looked great, and you were in the process of expanding/remodeling . You guys were busy dynoing a supercharged Mustang and I didn't want to butt-in, but listening into the mechanics talk with the customer they appeared to really know their stuff.

At this point I'm still researching the high-flow cats, and was just wondering if they had to be welded in (the cat backs are just bolted in), and what kind of labor was involved.

Snakester:

You may want to give Sean Roe a call (or send him email - he's a VCA member). His hi-flow cats are well regarded and he has done extensive research of the yielded increase in HP. The install is relatively simple (no welding) but removing the old cats can be a pain. Alignment of the new cats is the only significant concern with the install. BTW I installed his oval cats and am very pleased.

Hope that helps...my .02

Dean-
Thanks for stopping by the shop last weekend. You may have seen my 2001 Yellow ACR there.

We install plenty of high flow cats on the Vipers. We offer both 2.5" and 3" cats for the Viper. Since you are using the CORSA 2.5" system for your Viper, I would recommend the 2.5" cats. We always weld the cats on to ensure a leak free fit in the side sills. I am not sure if you installed your CORSA yet, but if you haven't, you may want to consider holding off until the cats are installed. Otherwise you may have to take the majority of the system on and off again.

Whether you would like to install it yourself and just get the parts or you want us to do it for you, we are happy to help.

Happy Vipering!
