Been doing a lot of research on what shift knob to get to go on my stock shifter. I have been hearing a lot of good things about the MGW First Strike. I know it's all subjective but it's difficult to decide what to go with since I can't find any local shops that carry it to get a feel for what I like. I guess i can just order one for $75 and hope i like it but doesn't hurt to ask :D

Any recommendations?

Lots of threads on shifters / shift Knobs :)
So do you have the stock long shaft and knob at the moment?

Are you happy with the shift mechanism?

You just want to change the Knob only?

It sounds like your talking about this :)

Then there's this

I have one of these Cue ball knobs fitted to my Hurst Shifter, the Cue ball is fairly big But I got one 'red with silver stripes' to go with the car.

Zee,

I have the MGW first strike knob and I would never go back. The way it fits my hand is perfect. Shifts feel smooth and the grip is awesome.

my personal opinion, I like the OEM and the Gripper [Round] types- I just don't like the height of the OEM, so we shorten them.

I didn't like the Gen I OEM shift knob and replaced it with an MGW. I like the OEM one in my 2001 better than the MQW. I shortened it as well by taking out the shock isolator and bolting it directly to the shifter.

In my GTS, I have tried 3 diff knobs. The two diff stock ones, and the MGW firststrike.

My favorite is the OEM knob that has been in the Viper since the mid-gen2 change. Since then SRT has stuck with it to the end of production and i think the Gen5 one is very similar. There is a reason for this. Nice leather ball with a thick magnum shaft. What more could you want in a shift knob?

The MGW First strike is a cheap plastic piece of crap. However, it does have a cool name.;)
The MGW Gripper has a nice knob but i think the shaft is too short

On the shortness, Check out my posts in the following threads:

Well the first post listed by Fatboy above was mine so you know what I like... Lol.

The shifter knob change was plenty for me. The shifter mech itself isn't the best I've had in a car, but it is not bad at all. A bit of seat time and it feels great. Just need to get used to it. The feel of the MGW is awesome and te drop of the knob height makes it ideal for me. I love it and would recommend it.

A shifter mech may be coming in the future for the car, but not for now.

I'm not a fan of the round knobs but it looks like mgw is really the only option out there for us.

I wish there was a cylindrical knob like this available for out cars http://www.mgwltd.com/corvette_race_knob.shtml

I bought this which http://www.ebay.com/itm/RED-STITCH-...Parts_Accessories&hash=item2ec312aad8&vxp=mtr fit fine but the shift pattern came off after a month, then i called the company and they sent me another which came three days ago. The pattern on the new one came off already.

Any ideas guys?

Slowfrc, I do have that knob for the Corvette you linked in my Viper. It is a plastic cheap fealing knob, I would rather have a later Gen Viper knob.
