I do my best to give people the benefit of the doubt, but I have had enough.
Last Summer I read a post from a board member who was looking for headers. My GTS was being modified so I decided to sell my Borla Headers to this person. As a courtesy, the tuner working on my car packed and shipped my headers to Ohio. It was confirmed the headers were received and I was promised payment. I reimbused the tuner for shipping charges.
Time passed by with no payment so I would send an email and I would receive a response stating I would have a payment sent shortly. There would also be an excuse of why it was not sent and I was not going to get ripped off. It got to a point where I started getting impatient so I stated emailing more and then sent a certified letter, plus a first class letter. I received an email that the check was in the mail.

Here is the original request to buy from me.

From: William F. Colleran [mailto:[email protected]]

>>Do you have to the pipes that fit in where the cats fit? If not that

>>you as soon as I get
>>my financial aid...just joking...Thanks for the help
>>
>>Sincerely,
>>
>>Bill Colleran
>>
>>P.S. Did you put them on your self and how hard was it?
>>This is going on my 96 Bluw ans white GTs

After several emails and ignored phone calls. I got this when he received the letter from me. He ignored the Certified Letter.

This is the last correspondence I received. He is referring to ignoring my certified letter.

I would not normally send anything unless it was COD. I did not ship them, and I will not blame the tuner or the employees who work there. They helped me with good intentions.

I am going to sue this person, I just wanted to inform other people who use this board.

William Colleran is a liar and thinks he can get away with cheating me. He goes to school and I think he belives he cannot be found.

Yes, He is in Cuyoga Falls. His email address is to a college. I was told he created a post where he said someone wrecked a GTS he use to own. I do not plan to let up.

I sympathize. I had the same thing happen to me once over headers - except I met the guy and had helped him out before and so trusted him.... I never got the money.

Some people are just prone to buying now and not paying later.
How do you plan to go after him in court?

I don't think that's a practical plan. If it look's like you are serious, he will just give them back and you will have no case.
The way I see it, you trusted him, he screwed you and that's the end of it.

There's nothing you can do about it.

If you show up at his house and make a threat, he will have you in jail.

KICASP,
I can assure you that you will never get your money from this guy. Last year I bought a gas powered scale model Viper from him off EBAY. I sent him over $600.00 and he never sent the car to me. He gave me multiple excuses and told many lies and I finally just gave up. I hope he comes to VOI so I can chat with him. I posted about my ordeal on the site to warn others of his actions. I'm sorry you got taken. He is not a nice man.

Mike,

I hope you don't follow this advice... especially after reading that he screwed someone else over $600. If he's using a school email address, then he most certainly can be found. What address did you send the headers to?

1) If it's his home, I'd call the local police department to report him on fraud. At the very least, they'd have to take a statement from him. He'd either say he doesn't owe you money, which you would then have on record and would have something to dispute. Or, he'll admit it and either give you the headers or money back (possible, but maybe not likely).

2) Get a local VCA member to swing by his place to confront him. Maybe he's just hiding behind the anonymity of the internet...

I doubt it's mail fraud if it wasn't shipped COD. However, I definitely think it's fraud based upon the emails above.

If I'm not mistaken, an email or fax can be used against you just as easily as a signed document...

This guy went by WCOLLERA on this board. Here is my post from last week when I was gathering info on him after I found out he was screwing over my buddy Kicasp. Some help from local members to him would be nice. I would have no problem knocking on his door for a fellow member.

I think it would be nice to have a special forum dedicated just for ratting out deadbeats. Back when I had an LS1, fraud was becoming so rampant on those boards that people were afraid to buy/sell anything.

If he's a VCA member, you CAN take actions to have his membership revoked - all you need to do is fill out a complaint and have a meeting where the defendant has a chance to explain himself. That'd be a HUGE red flag for someone....

IN THE FUTURE - I might recommend utilizing a VCA president to act as an escrow agent. Ship the item to him/her and have him/her collect the money in a real time transaction. We did this very thing with the sale of one of our 1996s in Las Vegas. It was a great way to complete a transaction that covered both parties.

I had dealings with this indiviual, and to say he is a crook is being nice. He has no morals or character and will take advantage of you. I believe he is an out of work airline employee, so has nothing to lose.

This is really upsetting. Why do a few people ruin it for other legitimate sellers? Hope you catch this person!!!

I believe the way to go after this guy is where it will hurt him most--at school. Contact the Registrar at Kent State and ask if he is still an active student. If so, let the Dean's office know that their domain name is being used as an email drop for fraudulent activity, and that the local police, campus police and federal authorities (being an interstate deal) are getting involved. Ask one of the lawyers on the board make a phone call or two. If you make a big enough stink about it, I bet you could get this A-hole expelled. Good luck, and keep us posted.

If he's ripped more than a few VCA folks, chances are he's doing this to lots of others too.
He sound's like at least a semi pro.

I don't think you are going to scare him. He probably knows how hard it would be for anyone to really take him to court or to get some kind of cops after him.

I'll bet if you drop by his house to chat about rip he has done, one of two things will happen,

He will say, "oh yeah, I was just going to send that back. Here it is".
Or
He will say, "get out of here before I call the cops".

If he calls the cops, and you are there when they get there, you have about a 50/50 chance that he will convince them that you made threats.

Again, he knows what he's doing. He probably does it all the time.

That is a GREAT idea !! He claims and is shown to be a pilot. Hmmm, now he is not only giving a bad name to Viper guys, but he is doing it to pilots also. GRRRR.

How bad do you want to get this guy. I can get the local police into this and the school. Do you want your money or parts back. I just hate people who do this, so just give me the word.
Ps I may need hard copy of the info you have.

I think Mike would take parts or money. My understanding is that he has another Viper and the headers/exhaust may be on that car now. I will alert Mike that you are ready to help. I have copies of all the e-mails between them. Mike is one of the nicest people that I know. Thanks for the offer.

Here is a piece of e-mail Mike sent back to him when they first started e-mailing:

Today the South East Viper convention starts. Sorry you were not here. You could stay with us. If you are ever in the Atlanta area, you have a place to stay. Call me if you have any questions, Mike

Great way to treat such a nice guy !!

Great info on the pilot's certificate! I got my license in college just for fun, but almost everyone who was flying to the point of flight instructor was ROTC. There's another angle for you: if this guy has any kind of military affiliation, you could get him discharged with a conviction. Personally, I say screw the money or parts, after all this I would try to ruin the guy's life--kicked out of school, dishonerably discharged from the service, knock up his girlfriend, whatever. Then again, that is just the vindictive type of bastard who takes things way too far that I am.

The Police won't and don't get involved. It's a civil matter. They could show up if the two guys wanted to meet and keep the peace.

This kind of thing really ****** me off. I've conducted transactions with other Viper owners from this board on several occassions and luckily haven't had any problems (knock on wood). When conducting a transaction, I make it my highest priority to get the check to the seller or shipping the item to the buyer. I'd like to think that there's a certain degree of trust amongst fellow Viper owners but crooks like this make life more difficult for the majority of us honest people.

Michael, I hope you keep on this like a pit bull and don't let go until its resolved to your satisfaction. Thanks for the Deadbeat Alert.
