ok,

Now that I have your attention...It was a really nice day for Viper driving, so I was driving to a party of one of my employees in an inner city part of town (Hartford, CT). My employee was celebrating his daughtetrs Sweet 16 birthday party. For those of you who are familiar with the Spanish culture, that is a really big thing for them. There is months of rehearsal for dancing, dresses, music, food...etc.

Anyway, there was no where to park, so I had to circle the block and come back around to find somewhere to park. When I came back around..there was a Police car flashing its lights and signaling me to pull over. I pulled over and asked what was the problem. Two young detectives got out...neither over the age of 30...and they asked to see my license. :dunno:I gave it to them.

Then one of them began to flash his flashlight into my Viper. He said...."Sh*t, this is a Viper..I have never seen one of these close up. Matter of fact, I have never even seen one of these around here period."
The other cop said, "The reason we pulled u over is b/c you came around the block twice, and this is a drug area. But you check out fine. What are you doing around here?" I said, "I am attending a Sweet 16 party for one of my employees."

Both cops were amazed by my Vipers sound and the cars aggressive presence. We talked about cars for about 10 more minutes, then I showed them my engine and they were very impressed by the car overall. We ended up talking about Vettes, Porsches, Mustangs, and even the new ZR1. One cop kept saying over and over.."I cannot believe you drive a Viper!":headbang:

Then they finally said..."We are gonna turn our heads the other way...but we would love to "hear" you HIT IT!" I smoked the tires all the way down the street, they flashed there lights in approval. It was a blast! Now some of you might think I was racially profiled:nono:...well it was night time and they could not see the driver. And some of you might say it was an illegal stop....well the fact of the matter is it was:cool:. But they said they were making sure the Viper was not being driven by kids who stole it and were joy riding. I would prefer that they stop and check that kind of thing than ignore it. My point is...ITS NOT A RACIAL ISSUE! I have been pulled over by a white cop doing 140 mph and let go with a warning...and there are white guys in here whose cars have been impounded doing only 100 mph.

My point is this: Sports cars bring out what is basic and true in all of us.
I am not saying bad people dont exist....But what I am saying is that the Viper stands for true Americanism and brings out the best in most of us....and horsepower aside...that is what its all about!!:usa:
LIFE IS GOOD!!

:clap2::clap::clap2: Let me be the first to say that is a great write up. Similar story to what slysnake just wrote about. Goes to show you that all the complaining people do on here about gettin tickets and being harrassed for driving such an incredible sports car that there are just as many good experiences. :2tu:

I dont know if its unique to Connecticut...but seriously, every single cop that has even acknowledged me has done so in the form of interest and awe...I will knock on wood...but I think Viper resonates w/ law enforcement b/c its Americas most exotic, meanest, most aggessive sports car..something we can all be proud of!

And I have been pulled over in extreme rush hour traffic on the Long Island Expressway (causing a huge traffic jam miles long) because some ****** needed to write me up for no front plate. There are good guys and haters in every occupation.

Glad you didn't get a ticket. But if a cop pulls me over to check out my stuff - it has happened to me - and when I realize he or she is starting a small and brief car show for his or her amusement, I will not answer any questions about the car.

And doing that burnout could have ended up being one of your more stupid accomplishments. What if another cop - their superiors or supervisor - had been cruising the same area and seen it? You were buddies with those 2 young detectives right? Right?

Why rain on the guy's parade? You missed the whole point of the story that us few that are priveleged to own one of these beasts are lucky individuals. He was obviously excited about the attention (rightfully so) and having fun. Get a life Mr. *****!!!!

One more thing dave6666, this is from a post you just made on another thread:

"Just 150 on a Friday night in front of the Miller brewery in south Fort Worth. Interstate 35W. 3 lanes each side, flat and straight.

150 was the goal to do someday when I bought the car.

My goal is now higher. Likely will be the same road."

And you have the nerve to refer to black mamba1 as being stupid??? What a loser!!!!!

You're killing me. Stop twisting it. Ouch. Pull it out.

OK.

Lesson 2 here. Public forum. I disagree and get to say so. I did so respectfully, and will not back down that doing cop encouraged & sponsored burnouts are stupid.

Lesson 3 here. My 150 mph run had no audience of any kind because the freeway was empty. All the cops in south Fort Worth were 2 miles behind me conducting dual felony traffic stops. All the other cars were thrilled to see cops with their guns drawn and therefore no traffic.

Lesson 4 here. People like me don't care what people like you think about them. Works great for me always.

Lesson 5 here. I've got tons of material.

This is the final post I will make for the sake of wasting any more of my time. 150 mph on a public road...hmmm...very poor justification of why your action was any smarter than his. I don't care what kind of bogus scenario you paint. Speeding tickets are not the only worry at that speed (i.e. objects in road, other vehicles, lack of personal protective gear, potholes, animals, tire blowout, the list can go on forever). I just thought it was crappy how you tried raining on this guy's parade, but I am somewhat at fault myself for allowing you to bring me down to your level, taking time out of my day to state the obvious. Get a life...

Yeah, I posted a similar event. I think that most cops are probably car guys, so natural that they would be curious. The guy that stoped me was very polite, but you could tell he was excited about the car. he did ask me "off the record" how fast I have ever had it and my response of 65mph was actually true. Well, close anyway. ;)

The thing is that these cops were not being assholes. If they were, they would have received an entirely different response from me, and probably a lawsuit. But, the fact of the matter is that the area I was in was an area known for drug activity and all sorts of crime including stolen cars. So being stopped did not surprise or alarm me at all.

Just like when cops clock us at 90 mph plus and decide not to pull us over, there will be cops that do pull us over w/out probable cause.

The stop went from a stop to 3 guys talking about cars...which happens to be my favorite subject! And I love any chance to do a burnout..."love that smell of burnt rubber in the morning...smells like....victory!"

We must take the good w/ the bad.

As you said, at least they weren't a**holes and went about doing their jobs. Certain parts of Hartford are rough, same with Waterbury where I grew up. Whenever I go visit my grandfather who still lives in the middle of a combat zone (he will not budge) I get followed by police on occasion in my BMW. I'm glad they're actually out there trying to do something about the crime and drug activity. I think CT is one of those rare locations where police are pleasant to deal with. I've been pulled over a number of times in Cheshire in particular and its always because they want to check out the Viper. Come cruise through Cheshire one day and make some new friends here. :D

Nice story and a better write-up!

Sure beats getting pulled over for "Display of speed" when I accelerated quickly to the speed limit in my 500SL (with traction control - no tires crying,) since I "kicked up some pebbles on the street." Luckily they let me go without a ticket that I would have had to waste time defending.

I was pulled over in a ford ******, my commute rig, because I had a viper logo on the trunk. he told me it was a random seatbelt check. Then he starts asking me If I know so in so and went on. I said yes I know of them. He told me they race Vipers for Naykid Racing. Oh yeah I said. Then he ask me what was that in my wallet, he saw a glimmer of my VCA membership card and then showed it to him..You own a Viper he said. He was a big Fan of Vipers and the Naykid race team. He never did ask for my ID or insurance card, and wanted to talk all night about his favorite car. But said I had to go, and we went our ways.

The last cop that stopped me (for no front plate-no ticket) talked to me for about 30 minutes about cars. As he left he said anytime I wanted to he would follow me out to a deserted road and use his radar gun to see how fast I could get my car up to. Nice guy.

The guys I have known who work the north end are pretty balanced in Hartford. It's true what you say that they would have flagged you regardless of race due to the second circle around the block. Just a friendly "what's up" from the boys in blue.

After the show you gave them, you probably had the best unofficial car security system in Hartford for the next few hours. There are places up there that I just wouldn't bring a flashy car and leave it untended for any period of time.

So how was the party? That sounds like quite the shindig.

Most cops I know are decent people and adrenaline junkies who love fast cars and fast bikes and would love to talk to you about them all day long if they could.

Unfortunately, there are some out there who are only too happy to abuse their authority because they are jealous of the toys that others have that they themselves cannot afford.

But, in my experience, most, once they have figured out you're not a "bad guy", will exercise police officer discretion and cut you some slack, if they can, and enjoy shooting the sh*t with you about your vehicle.

I would hazard a guess that almost as many Viper owners would get a break, by virtue of the vehcle they are driving, as would get hammered with a ticket for the same reason.

I have only been a Viper owner for around 18 months, so I am still knocking on wood...but I gotta tell ya, I NEVER GET FOLLOWED no matter where I am. And this was only the second time I have been pulled over. The first time I was doing 140 mph like a fool (showing off). The cop know some people I do business with and only gave me a warning. I almost think cops may be somewhat reserved or concerned that if they stop or follow me for no reason it will blow up into something major b/c I am black:mad:....and they are right!:D I get followed almost every time I drive the Bentley to Hartford at night, but again, not pulled over. And Hartford is a pretty rough town, so that does not bother me.

I dont mind getting checked out if I am in an area like I was in last night, but if I get pulled over in Cheshire where Viper Tony lives...they better have a damn good reason, :nono:or else I am gathering badge numbers and opening up a serious can of Cloverfield-like worms.:lmao:

Last night they only asked for my license, no insurance or registration info. No big deal.

The party was a blast....I had a crash course in Salsa dancing:stick:...I am sure they are many sore toes today from all the feet I stepped on trying to learn Salsa last night!

The ONLY thing missing from your story was for the cops to tow a couple of cars to make you a decent parking spot!!!!

If you ever want a lawsuit against a town for profiling, take a few laps of Rt 5 or 68 in Wallingford. I give it 10 minutes or less before they spot you. Though I would say it would be as much or more for driving the Viper than anything else that got you pulled over.... they tend to be ticket nazis in this town, which is why I do all of my shopping elsewhere... but it would certainly provide you grounds for the case. Mix in the fact that the town has had some racial tensions within the past year over an extra paid day off for MLK Day and some *** guy who wanted to speak at the library.... well, if your lawyer were allowed to mention it I'm sure the jury would eat it up.

That was funny black mamba1 ( driving while black ).

I was showing off for my buddy in his Ferrari with all his employees drooling over the Viper and paying no attention to his $200k vintage Ferrari. I pulled away to leave and jumped on it through 2nd gear..............in front of 3 cops:( and one of them was the police captain.:smirk:
I didn't even realize it till two motorcycle cops pulled in behind me as I pull in to my dry cleaners. They were both cool guys and I, very apologetic.
They just gave me a ticket for improper start.:headbang:

Oh right, I remember hearing about that *** rally. I forgot that *** scumbag's name but I do agree Wallingford is up there when it comes to profiling. Cheshire is not known for its racial profiling but I will say that Keith will absolutely get pulled over if he drove down Rte. 10 past the Cheshire police station. Why? Not because of race but because the police feel the need to pull over anybody driving an exotic in this town and holding a long conversation about the car and how someone's sisters brother owns a vette, etc.

Our finest pulled me over on a side street because they "heard my exhaust from a mile away" and didn't bother clocking me. Just pulled me over and started bs'ing. Problem is that happens all of the time. I can tell you about each police officer we have here in town as well as any side business they have going on. I have most of their business cards. Too much info for me.

So Keith...considering my taxes here are already high and Cheshire really can't afford a lawsuit, STAY AWAY!!! :D Seriously, looking forward to some cruising come spring.

Keith--that is a GREAT story (and answered my previous question as to if you could get your Viper out and about!). YOU yourself are such an inspirational man, you SEE the good in things, you and your wife are the most down-to-earth couple we have met thru the Viper Club. I'm GLAD that you felt good about this traffic stop...you saw it for what it really was. KUDOS to you!!! ~juli
