Bob Woodhouse ?? - Grill Cover for SRT-10 Rear Space under Trunk

I am surprised they do not have a grill cover to hide the large gap under the trunk and above the air splitters. Anyone know if they plan on adding this? If not we need an after-market supplier to begin working on this.

I agree with Craig 201, I think a rear "grill" or a type of cover would to a certain degree, obstruct the air flow of the diffuser, therefore, may result in rear-end lifting.

I was talking about something like an open honeycomb mesh painted black that would let air flow through. Wouldn't something like that work?

It's still gonna obstruct the flow somewhat. They spent alot of time on the undertray of the car, I would really be hesitant to screw around with it.

IT may seem insignificant, but remember when Audi introduced the TT, it originally didn't have a spoiler but teh car was very unstable above 90 mph or so. they were recalled and a small spoiler was added, problem solved.

I was at the Dodge proving grounds in April and Herb Helbig and John Fernandez were there. A silver SRT (one of the first test cars) was shown to the Arizona Viper Club. A commentary about air flow and handling of the car at high speed was made in relationship to the trunk gap was made. Apparently handling and airflow under the car is much improved with leaving out the grill. The test car had a partial opening whereas the production car has it completely open.

Jerry RE your concern. I agree there is a need to dress this area. The approach I would suggest is to leave that hole alone and put a visual blocker just behind the battery and full across. This would be in the form of black sheet plastic. If a vendor doesn't grab onto this maybe I can get to it this spring.

IMHO-- If the airflow under the SRT was perfect (it isn't, but very good for a street car)the air would flow smoothly under the car and it would be "sucked" out by the diffuser in the rear thus creating downforce. Unfortunately, from what little I can tell, there is a break in the flow by openings in the undertray in the area of the differential which allows the air to flow upward, if this air were not allowed to exit through the "ugly" hole in the back, it would create a high pressure and reverse its flow, thus negating the smooth flow of the undertray, and nullifying the diffuser, therefore loosing the downforce. I think?

That's what I was saying, seems to me like it would create a huge pocket. I really wouldn't worry about it from the outside and even behind the car, seems like you have to bend down to see it. Even with a screen, it's still going to slow the air down. Go up to a screen in your house and blow air through it, you can feel the resistance as opposed to just blowing out air.

Its a 500 HP car with a full belly pan and no diff or tranny coolers. To my knowledge, this has never before been attempted on a streetcar or a race car. I would leave that hole WIDE open.

Flat black paint? At least that would make all the shiny stuff almost invisible? On the other hand, how about a chrome differential cover, Dukes of Hazzard style.

Dude, that hole is cool!? Why would anyone need a grill there? Not like bugs are going to get into the engine there?

If you look under the car, there is a tube that directs air from the bottom of the car, into the rear diff, to where? out that hole.

The hole has a purpose, it looks cool, nothing is hurt by leaving it open; unless someone can put this in a wind tunnnel and tell me something better can be done there its staying open for me.
