Brake issue, question for Janni Cone or 2 Viper Chuck!

I put on these Roto-Tech rotors (poser mod as Chuck would say ) with no real intentions on putting them on the track. After about 2000 miles, I wanted to fix a squeaky brake issue and found this

As you can see from the pictures, the rotors start to develop cracks in the middle holes(all of them), but not on the outer holes. 1, can these still be used, 2, What can happed with continued use? If they can not be used, we need to alert anybody that has these type of rotors to check theirs periodically for cracks . After 2000 miles, these rotors should not have cracked like this, IMHO.

I also emailed the company to get their input:
Sir,
I bought four of your rotors to put on my 1999 Dodge Viper when it needed a brake job. I felt confident that I was buying a quality product. After about 2000 miles of use, the brakes developed a squeak and I pulled off the wheels to investigate. I found that your rotors I bought had started to crack from the middle hole of the rotor. Now keep in mind that I have not had this on the track, but just normal use and after 2000 miles, your statement on the front page of your web site does not ring true for me("MANUFACTURERS OF TOP QUALITY - BUILT TO LAST DISC BRAKE ROTORS"). I would like some input from you and possibly a set of replacement rotors to replace this defective set I have. Looking forward to your response,

Not very surprising when you look at the rotors, the holes are not even chamfered.

The only "good" cross drilled rotors are the one that are cast with the holes in it and made of steel (not iron).
You're talking mostly Porsche,Ferrari,etc,NOT the one that are drilled.

As racers, we all know to stay away from those types of rotors.they always crack,even when they are chamfered.

All rotors get small "spider" cracks in them, usually starting from the center outward. When the crack goes all the way out to the edge they should definitely be replaced.

Do your brakes feel ok? If so, you can still drive your rotors on the street but personally I wouldn't track them.

So much for those nice pretty poser rotors, huh?

What they said....

Any heat in a drilled rotor will stress the holes. Middle area first - then radiate out to the edges. You should replace when they are large enough to catch your fingernail or they reach the inner or outer edge.

Actually they are chamfered, but cracked anyway. Just hard to see it in the picture.

They shouldn't, mine never have, but I've heard of some folks' greens squeaking. Try scuffing the rotors.

As 99RT/10 properly stated "poser mod" , Thanks for the information Chuck & Janni! My brother is the track director for the Ferrari Club in NY educated me to stay away from cross drilled rotors and stay with non drilled rotors altogether! Appreciatively, I also look for you guys to educate me and the masses on good track hardware, focus and etiquette.

Hardware? Like tools? For starters get a low profile lightweight jack. I got mine at Costco. $138 and it weighs 37lbs.

Just to updaye, I did email and Roto-Tech came back with:
Dear Mr. Scherzberg

We understand your complaint, but because we do not sell to the public,
you must contact the company you purchased the rotors from and we will
deal with them.

We can not do anything until we receive word from our distributor
regarding your rotors.

Please contact them ASAP.

So I contacted the vendor and he got ahold of Roto-Tech, they told then the rotors have a two week warranty! It doesn't included manufacturer defects, two weeks is all you get. Ain't it great when a company stands behind their product



I would caution anybody who has bought this company's rotors to check them out frequently!
