So I'm pulling into my house from a 2 mile run to get some gas when I smell radiator fluid. The car was a little warm but nothing crazy. I left the car running and popped the hood. The reservoir was empty. I turned off the car and took the top off of the reservoir, no steam. I filled the tank and started the car. It must have taken about 1 gallon to finally fill the tank. I then noticed a very thin stream of water shooting out of the side of the water pump. It looks like the gasket failed.

So my question is:

Was is it just the gasket or is this a consequence of a failed water pump?

Do I change the gasket only or go ahead and change the pump out as well?

How much should I expect to pay?

Thanks,
Martin

When my gasket went it dumped all the coolant into the crank case. I had the dealer pull the pan and inspect all the bearings (no damage) flush out the motor 3 times after replacing the gasket.

Hey Martin,
It may be the timing chain cover gasket?

Timing chain cover gasket #4763745AB MSRP $22.85
Water pump gasket #4763790AB MSRP $13.25
Water pump #4763776AB MSRP $432.00

It should only take 2-3 hours to change all of the above.
I have everything in stock if you need it [less 20% VCA].
