Burping Required for \'97 GTS ? Best H2O to Coolant Mix ?

I have a 1997 GTS that developed a small heater core leak. The tech is replacing it under my extended warranty (get one if you don't have one !), but he is under the impression that this really only applies to the early-year models. He did say he runs a bunch of coolant through the system to flush any bubbles. Maybe the effect is the same.

As for fill, I live in GA and drive on the track. Outside temps range from 10 deg. F. to 105 deg. F. For maximum cooling effect with adequate freeze protection, what's the current suggested fill ?

50/50 Ethylene Glycol & Distilled Water is what the factory recommends. This will provide freeze protection to -35F and maximum cooling. Use a Antifreeze formulated specifically for Aluminum engines. For added cooling, you might want to add a couple of 12oz bottles of Redline "Water Wetter super coolant". The stuff is good for a few extra degrees reduction in temperature. Burping is almost always required!(JD)

BurpMan Say..........

"The Viper that never requires burping is the one never driven."

All Viper Radiators are BELOW the level of coolant in the block.
Air enters the system thru a neglected facia overflow bottle, and thru a NON-FULL underhood surge tank. (Yes, it should be FULL, not filled to the 3/4 line.) And, thru the "normal" ways that coolant mysteriously departs! {92-96 gaskets aside !!)

HINT: Antifreeze quickly (18 mos?) stains & discolors the surge tanks, rendering a quick glance at coolant level ineffective. It WILL trick you....check it out! Tank APPEARS full....it AIN'T !!

If you E-Me, I will send you a pristine, new surge tank for only $39.00. Replace the green-yellow stained tank in 10 minutes. Spot coolant "gaps" quickly, before the motor ingests air. Air in the motor isolates the temp sending unit, giving false temp readings !!

Also, 92 - 98.3 will benefit from the "Fan Module Upgrade" first announced here on the VCA site....still only $139 complete. (Why replace just 1 fan motor for $200+, when the entire shroud/motor/fan/harness is only $139....... Duhhh ! }

Mix? 50-50, include 2 bottle WaterWetter.

E-me for tank / tips please! JonB (B for Burp)

Re: Burping Required for \'97 GTS ? Best H2O to Coolant Mix ?

I have a question about the "neglected facia overflow bottle". My owners manual says I have one on my 2000 GTS, but I can't find it. I know this seems weird, but can someone tell me where it is/how to find it so it will no longer be neglected?

Thanks.
