Do California Viper have anything different about them.

Anyone know for sure?
Thanks,

There is no difference in the emissions in the engines sold in California. I've registered two Vipers here in So Cal from out of state and been down this road with the Dept of Motor Vehicles, as long as the car passes the "smog test" ( which any car manufactured since sometime in the late 60's ,I believe, must do).

It gets me how California has the most stringent smog and emissions requirements in the country, yet we have the #1(Los Angeles) and #2(Bakersfield)cities with the worst air quality in the nation.

We are surrounded by mountians. The pollution is trapped here until the rain (yeah that's about once a year) or the wind (about as frequent as the rain) clean us up. Also, look at the traffic in LA. A bunch of cars sitting still ideling on the highway puts a lot of crap into the air. Public transportation is a joke here too. Had we not had these emmisions laws, we would be far worse off.

actually, i am all for cars running cleanly and efficiently, i just dont like the n-a-z-i c.a.r.b. tactics..

also, point of reference.. if you buy a pre 99 (non 50 state legal) viper from out of state it must have at least 7000 miles on the odometer.. why? i dont know, but call the dmv first before making any commitments to a car..

i'm surprised jonathan didnt mention that..

From CA DMV site:

What should a California resident look for when buying a new vehicle from another state?

Individuals are prohibited from importing, purchasing, or leasing a new vehicle from another state, unless the vehicle was manufactured for sale in California, and the Environmental Protection Agency label certifies the vehicle has California smog equipment. California considers a new vehicle to be any vehicle with less than 7,500 miles on the odometer at the time of purchase.

Let's take Flyviper and his buddy to Vegas. I just went through all the BS w/the CA DMV. Several DMV's from different parts of the state advised me that unless the car being imported to CA had the CA cert sticker from Dodge it had to have 7500 miles on the car. Why 7500 miles and not 3000 or 1000 miles I have no idea. Thats a huge reason why I had to wait so long to find the right GTS that was originally sold in CA. All the really low mileage GTS' that I found were out of state. I finally found a 97 GTS that had was originally shipped to New York, but it did have the CA emissions sticker on it. So it worked out OK. Just goes to show how inconsistent our DMV's are. The next out of state car I buy I'm going to Flyviper's DMV for sure.

I guess we shouldn't be too surprised at DMV inconsistencies-- to work there you must have had experience working for the postal service and no more than an 8th grade education. For your next Viper "import" try the Laguna Hills DMV.

That's a myth about having to have 7000 mi on a pre '99 car bought outside of Calif and registered in Calif. I had heard the same thing before bringing two '95 Vipers to Cal. but I had absolutely no problems with the Dept. of Motor Vehicles and neither of these cars was a "Calif" car. There are many rumors about regestering out of state cars in Calif but I found none of them to be true. The car must pass the "smog" test and have proof of insurance-- that's all.
