I don't, but not because you can't. The more you use a torque wrench, the quicker it moves out of calibration. The cost of calibrating one would probably be close enough to the cost of getting a new one. So I break the lugs loose with a breaker bar and use the torque wrench just for tightening.

I'm lazy and use an impact gun. I also use it for tightening but always stop before high torque is reached and finish with a torque wrench.

If you turn the setting up higher than the torque you need, then the wrench won't click, and it won't be stressed unduly.

But if it has already clicked once, and you keep turning it, you will throw it out of calibration, and possibly damage the wrench.

You can pick up an egg with channel locks, if you are careful! But why would you wanna? :)

Vic,

Are you saying to set it higher when tightening, or while loosening? I thought it wouldn't matter what you set it to if you're loosening...
